We seek to create an atmosphere that is warm, inviting, and loved by all ages.
Welcome to the 1869 Tap Room, a classic, old-style pub named for the year Purdue University was founded. Join us on Purdue Memorial Union’s ground floor, next to Pappy's Sweet Shop. The pub welcomes guests of all ages to celebrate in Purdue's traditions and those over 21 can enjoy a craft beer from breweries all throughout Indiana. Food will be served by Purdue Dining & Catering featuring a menu from Pappy’s.
The Tap Room is keenly interested in Purdue’s growing research into fermentation science and hops production, hoping to create excitement and support for Purdue’s current and future research in fermentation and hops production.
Indiana has a long history with fermentation — including being home to the first successful vineyard and winery in the United States — and Purdue’s faculty and researchers are working to create the knowledge, technologies and techniques to maintain Indiana’s leadership position.
Purdue hops researchers and students in the College of Agriculture work closely with several local and Indiana hops farmers to test and evaluate their crops for physical and chemical quality properties.
Today, Indiana is the 4th-largest producer of biopharmaceuticals in the United States. As fermentation industries — including biopharmaceuticals, biofuels, craft brewing and wine production — grow in Indiana, Purdue is graduating trained individuals for these growing job markets.
