MAKE IT, RIGHT AND KEEPING IT TIGHT!!!
Hey everyone! My name is Crystal Winfrey-Ellington and I hail from Columbus Ohio, currently reside in Akron Ohio. I became an athlete at the age of 6, playing Racquetball competitively and became an eight-time state champion, five-time national champion, four year Racquetball Jr. Olympic Team member, and four-time world champion in Racquetball up until the age 18. During High School I juggled playing Racquetball, Basketball and Track & Field. By the end of my High School Senior year I had narrowed it to Racquetball and Track and Field. Coupled with great academics and great performances in High School, I earned a Full ride Track & Field scholarship to Ball State University.
There, I chose to get an education in something related to the human body, being that I stayed so active and wanted to have the benefit of knowing how the human body worked.
I performed well my first 2 years in Track earning Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, was a NCAA Regional qualifier in the 400m dash, named to All-MAC First Team in the 400m and Second Team in the 200m dash, and anchored the MAC Championship winning 4x400m relay. However, I learned quickly just how the body worked personally after I got injured, which ended my competitive streak. Thinking I could eat anything I wanted and my athletic body would metabolize the food, while I was down recovering, was not the case because I gained almost 30 pounds.
Trying to get back on the track and compete again caused more injuries due to the weight gain. The whole ordeal was an eye opener, and made me treat my body differently as well as wanting to learn even more about the body through my college years. I earned my Bachelors in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine and from there my career in the health and fitness industry blossomed.
Not only do I share my personal story, but I share many others that have effected my life such as my grandmother passing away from heart disease, my uncle at the age of 47 passing from heart disease, another Uncle suffering a stroke, and my mother beating cancer. All are stories that deal with health. I am an avid speaker for the American Heart Association, and try to spread the word to as many people as well as my clients, how important it is to treasure our health…because it is indeed our wealth.
