7 Crows is the home gallery of Binghamton, NY native, Don Sharpe, whose inventory of driftwood, animal skulls, and rusty metal inspires the imagination.
Beneath my house in a fallout shelter hiding behind my dark room, 7 Crows Studio holds boxes of broken and forsaken elements of man and nature. Everything in my inventory – wood, iron, bones, feathers and even plain old litter – was hand-picked by me; my curiosity of a “crow’s eye view” already at work.
My constantly growing cache of rusty cogs and springs, driftwood, bones, skulls and feathers challenges me to show the relationship and juxtapositions of inanimate and completely unrelated items. Anything that catches my eye is fair game for pilfering as I scour the streets, fields and riverbanks. I find beauty and equality in the discarded and seemingly useless trash.
Every item I pick up is viewed as an opportunity to turn seemingly worthless elements into fine art. Nostalgia and irony drive my passion for repurposing the forgotten and discarded detritus of my environment.
