A Cup Above Restaurant & Pub & Take-away

Prompty served coffee and cake in a relatively quiet and generic cafe. Would have brought in the dog had we known it to be dog-friendly. NB cash only.Food: 4/5

Been a few times. Dog friendly. Good with elderly quite slow relative. Found it good to unwind. Soup good. Breakfast rolls good according to others.

Very bad first impression Agree with other comments in reviews as to the passive aggressive demand to sanitize hands, which is absolutely unnecessary. Clearly the proprietors have no medical knowledge They should also be aware, but clearly are not, that some people are prescribed medications that interact adversely with the ingredients in hand sanitizer, therefore they could be placing people at risk In addition the food was dry and mediocre, and the establishment was not in the least relaxing Unpleasant experience overall

The food here is great tasty and good portions Won't leave here hungry I ate here at noon was still not ready to eat again by 8pm that night I had the lentil soup and it was full of flavour and enjoyed every mouth full and was so worth the money

I went in to buy a mug of soup to take away. I asked politely to use the toilet and was told no, it is for sit in customers only. I am very obviously 7 months pregnant and asked if they could make an exception seeing as I had paid for soup. The server checked with the owner and I was told no. When she passed me I asked her directly, and she aggressively said no again and that there is a sign on the door stating the "rule". I hadn't seen the sign on the way in but noticed it on the way out. Very rude and inconsiderate, it doesn't hurt to be kind to someone. Won't be going back.

EDIT - To add. In response to the owner's comment, this indeed happen exactly as described. However, it is evident that the owner of this establishment fails to recognise her behaviour and actions as proven in many reviews is not what paying customers expect. There are a good number of negative reviews of this place, both on Google and on Facebook. The responses from the "owner" tend to be written by somebody who writes on behalf of the manager and each response is argumentative, not open to feedback and in many respects, demonstrative of a unprofessional establishment. Our experience today was as per MANY others, a rude female member of staff who is not remotely friendly not welcoming and was indeed "barking" at customers to use sanitiser as they enter the shop. There is no legal requirement to do so, and if it is the case that this member of staff is medically compromised then they do need to consider if this role is correct for them - Many of us are "compromised" though we do not make it everybody else's problem . I very much believe we should all support our community and "shop local" though we do expect a decent level of service and this is not necessarily found in "A Cup Above"

I love this wee cafe..does the best toasty in town..and the coleslaw is to die for..the home baking is all lovely and fresh and tastes amazing and nice friendly staff..also has daily specials ...and I've seen the dogs get spoiled..

Such a lovely wee cafe. Very welcoming and helpful to me , my dog, man and our granny. The staff were very kind and lovely to my dog Ozzy thank you for giving him lots of treats - he was spoilt My granny says “beyond expectation!” We had the full Scottish breakfast and it was amazing. Great quality and price! The customers were locals and very lovely people. A nice wee atmosphere. We shall be back for some of the yummy cakes! Thank you.

What a lovely cafe. Thank you for your warm friendly welcome. The food was delicious. Great to see you were dog friendly and a big thank you from Harry for his dog treats. We will definitely be back as we regularly holiday in this area.

AVOID! Upon arriving I was passively aggressively asked to sanitize my hands even though everyone else stopped months ago. I then ordered which wasn't listened to. Part of the order was a bacon roll. On the menu it said it was "freshly grilled" however it was pre heated fried bacon and tremendously low quality at that. The roll was also stale, part of which was missing then the rest came apart in my hands. When I spoke to the staff about this no apology was offered and my concerns were denied. The roll was left on the plate. Then when I realised they don't take cards I informed the staff member I was going to an atm and would return shortly at which point the person doing the "cooking" came out of the kitchen in dirty clothes and demanded I leave a personal belonging to ensure I returned so not only did they not apologise then charge me for a roll that wasn't eaten, they then accuse me of being some shady theif. When I returned with cash I mentioned that it was shady to charge me for a poor quality stale roll and I wouldn't be back to which the woman in dirty clothes sa8d good and we have you on cctv!!! She then tried to shut the door on me and when I stopped the door with my foot, she followed me out aggressively! Amateur outfit who will soon be out of business. Thank God
