It's a really small shop and I've never had an issue reaching them. Today I hadn't and... had no problem getting an answer at the door and picking up my repaired Nakamichi casette deck. My deck was fixed in three weeks so I'm not sure why people have had issues with wait times. For me, I'm thankful, I've been playing tapes for 4 hours straight and the deck is perfect. Remember: labour costs money and I'm happy to support these guys.
They fixed my Sony ES cassette deck from the late '80's. I dropped it off on Oct 29, 2022. I got it back on Nov 8, 2022. That's quick. I was expecting a longer wait. It was money well spent since manufacturers stopped making quality cassette decks. So happy to have a local repair shop in the city.
I have never written a review for anything before, but this guy gave me such a bad experience I had to. Dropped off my turntable and mixer to be worked on in the beginning of October, when I dropped it off Peter quoted me 3 weeks before he could take a look at my units. Understanding that he would probably need some time to work/inspect my equipment I waited 4 weeks. After not hearing anything from him, I called the store, only to be told my equipment had still not been looked at. At this point I got a little worried but shrugged it off as I had been referred to this shop by other audio professionals in the city. After week 6 and no word from the shop I called again and was told that parts had been ordered. By this time I had read the reviews for his shop and noticed that he'd played this card a few times with different people. He tells them parts have been ordered but no other follow up and the parts never arrive. Not willing to wait on this guy and his bad customer service any longer, I went to the shop to pick up my things. The only saving grace is he did not try to charge me his $70 inspection fee, I think its because he knows he hadn't done any real work. On closer inspection I noticed he bent the filter knob on my mixer. Thanks man. In short, dude wasted 6 weeks of my time + lost wages from weekly gig + bent my filter knob + my stuff is still broken lol. If anyone knows a good shop pls let me know. Thanks!
Absolute waste of time. I was referred to A-tech by a local music shop. I phoned several times but no answer. I left a voicemail but never got a call back. I sent an email but never got a reply. Drove out to the store during listed operating hours but had a sign up 'back in an hour.' Drove to the store again and finally got someone only to be told I had to make an appointment to drop my amp off in a month. Called the day of the appointment to confirm but no answer. Went to the store with my amp but nobody home. If a business is going to have a drastically reduced operation then it should communicate it on its website so people do not waste their time. Pathetic.
They were great and did the work I requested and gave me a fair ballpark figure as to the cost. My recording machine is no longer made and I wished to keep it but it was acting up. All was done at a reasonable cost for labor and parts and guaranteed for 90 days as well. It wasn't cheap but I'm confident with the work done that my machine will give me more years of good service.
Always timely and efficient. My go to for repairs, and the go to for many industry types, from audio and recording, to live music and sound.
We went in to have the needle replaced in on our very old AudioTechnica cartridge. The gentleman took the time to first examine the cartridge, which had brought with us, and after looking at it with his microscope, told us it was fine and that it did not need replacing. He could have easily just sold us the needle we asked for and made the sale regardless. To me this demonstrates integrity and honesty, not always easy to find in retail.
Came in with a vintage tube amp that needed repairs. A-Tech identified the problems, replaced old components and got the amp back to me sounding better than ever. Great service and expertise.
Went into this shop to buy a new stylus for my p-mount style turntable. Got home, installed it, and listened to a record. Something didn't sound right, so I tried a different record..same deal. I then proceeded to clean the stylus and try a few more albums out. Same deal, the sound was all distorted and sounded bad. I went ahead and put my old stylus on and the issue was instantly fixed. So I have a defective stylus. "Not an issue", I thought, thinking I'll just call the store and get a refund. Well turns out that not only can I not get a refund for the defective product sold to me, but also that the shop owner is rude and aggressively told me why he can't accept the return because long story short he'd be out the money then... So I guess it's okay to sell your customers a defective product, and then when I find out it's defective to just let me be out the $60 I paid for this thing. Not happy at all, this has been one of the worst experiences I've had with a store in a long while.
I dropped off a NAD receiver for repair. Just over 2 months went by with no follow up from them. I called to check in periodically and was told they were waiting for a part with no idea as to when the part would arrive. Finally I got the receiver home after the repair only to have it malfunction again after 4 days in the same way as it was doing before. I took it back in under their warranty and waited for another 2 months with no follow up on their end. At the end of my patience I called only to be told that the new part they ordered in arrived broken so they now had to wait again for another part with no idea as to when it would arrive. I requested a refund and they did oblige but kept my receiver for parts. They are nice to deal to a point but lack customer follow up protocol and basic customer service regarding wait times. They did refund upon request but I would not take anything back there for repair again unless I didn't need to use it for a very long time.
