One of the coolest restaurants we ate at during our stay in Cape Town! The building and decor was cool and unique. The staff are very friendly and are happy to guide you through the whole process if you don’t know anything about Ethiopian food like me. The food was delicious and overall such a cool experience.Recommended dishesSampler Platter
Edit in response : Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the waiter. I visited towards end of March so it's been a while. Maybe you could ask all your waiters to observe this policy? That way everyone knows. I'll give you guys another chance. Updating the review from 2/5 --> 3/5 for now. Appreciate that you care about these things. The food was great: I’d have happily given 5/5. The problem was with their policies and service. I took an Italian guest for dinner. I’m a vegetarian while my guest wasn’t. The servers forced me to eat from the same plate as the non-vegetarian one, they refused to serve me separately even after I explained things to them. For those who don’t understand this : I’m a vegetarian since birth and the thought of having meat absolutely disgusts me. It is similar to forcing a devout Muslim to eat in the same plate in which Pork is served. If the guest wasn’t very important I’d have left immediately. Will not be back - sadly the food is great.
Really cool spot! It was my first time trying ethiopian cuisine and it did not disappoint. They have a special on Mondays - 2 course menu for 2 people @R375 vegan and non-vegan options both available. Very worth it... the portion sizes are very reasonable! Food was really flavourful! I'll definitely visit again. Meat is halaal friendly.
From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with the pleasant aroma of burning essence that immediately transported me to a different world. The coffee was served in a traditional ceramic cup “Cini” and was accompanied by a bowl of popcorn, which was an excellent snack to enjoy with the coffee. The coffee itself was rich, bold, and had a unique fruity and floral flavor profile. Overall, the combination of the delicious coffee, the popcorn, and the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant made for a truly memorable experience. If you are looking to try authentic Ethiopian coffee, I highly recommend checking out this restaurant. You won't be disappointed!
A very good place for having a wonderful dinner. The food is amazingly delicious, we had the 2 course set vegan and barely had room for dessert. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine. The service was fantastic, very well explained.
Ethiopian restaurant, Special cooking that's above and beyond what you're used to. Lovely staff who are clearly passionate about what they are doing. This comes through in the food of course, the service and even their social media, which makes me hungry every time they post something. I highly recommend it to friends and family.Food: 5/5
First time eating Ethiopian food and it was an awesome experience. What a fantastic way to ‘break bread’ with a group of people your are meeting for the first time. Friendly staff who let us enjoy our dinner experience far after closing time.
A great experience from start to finish. lungi served us and answered all of our questions and gave us amazing service. The food was incredible, so many different flavours, it is a fun experience and great to go with a group of friends and share food. The whole evening was an experience in itself, they have played close attention to the small details, which make a huge difference. Will definitely be going back here
As a long time patron of Addis in Dar, I was so excited to learn of this sister-restaurant here in Cape Town. This fact alone was what made me choose this restaurant over the other Ethiopian restaurants, and I am so glad for it. The interior design and tables are so authentic and brought so much nice nostalgia, along with the hand washing at the table via teapot. The food was 10/10. The Ethiopian coffee was 10/10. The ginger mojito was 10/10. The service was 10/10. This place is a must for first time and seasoned Ethiopian food lovers. Vegetarian options: Half of the menu is vegetarian.
Very nice restaurant with great Ethiopia food. It was the first time I ate Ethiopian and I can only say it was a great experience. One star less on food since the lamb tasted pretty strong but loved all other dishes and especially the stater. Great experience with a group. Vegetarian options: They have full vegetarian combos
