Being introduced as a 100% Black women owned advisory firm, founded and incorporated in South Africa in 2014, is all good. Because it’s all fact. But we are more thrilled when introduced as ‘The champions of big picture’; because whilst we value “black owned”, “women owned” and “one of the best”, there is more to our purpose.
Like most high impact organisations in the world, something more profound, yet less obvious, drives us. In affectionate terms, we call it ‘The business of big picture’.
It is a worldview based on our belief that the world is an ecosystem of interconnected ecosystems, where everything affects everything. In the context of business, ‘big picture’ means:
• Without productive society, there is no business. Without business, there is no productive society. Without both, there is no human progress. As such, whilst pursuing commercial interests, business has an inherent duty to advance social interests. After all, global citizenry of today expect more from business;
an inescapable realty.
• Business happens within a broader context; its external environment. Viewing a business in isolation from its context may render it irrelevant, and ultimately unviable.
• The business itself is a micro ecosystem where each function affects others, and vice versa. Thinking and acting in silos renders any business suboptimal.
To us, thinking and acting ‘big picture’ is no longer a luxury for business leaders across the globe, but a fundamental necessity, if their organisations are to remain relevant and viable. Aspiring to be leading business advisors in spaces where we are active, ‘big picture’ is a new mindset we have set ourselves to champion.
