Basizeni Special School is a South African school for Learners with special educational needs. The school is located in Embalenhle Township (Mpumalanga).
Basizeni - A place to help them
In Zulu, the word Basizeni means "Help them". This word acquires new meaning at Basizeni School for Learners with special educational needs. Basizeni is a place where children who suffer from severe mental handicap can find acceptance and mutual understanding.
Patiently, the staff at the school educate and guide the children so that they can reach their full potential. Every day the children grow in the knowledge that they have a valid contribution to make to society despite their disability.
Basizeni and the future
The sponsoring body of the school, the Basizeni Association, has another vision for the future of this school:
- to build hostels and after-care workshops for mentally handicapped adults
- to improve the service that the school offers in order to cater for children who suffer from physical handicaps such as impaired sight, hearing and cerebal palsy.
The Basizeni Association aims to set up necessary infrastructure to allow these groups to share in the tremendous benefits the Association can provide.
