The B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute of Southern Africa was founded in 1976, with Joyce Stuart (Padma) as National Chair.
We would like to establish a community page for local Iyengar members to share experiences, class times, workshop announcements, teaching tips, posture advise, and other insights. This will strengthen the community spirit between all members despite the distances between us. This will ultimately enhance our teacher referral network throughout the province.
The B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute of Southern Africa was founded in 1976, with Joyce Stuart (Padma) as National Chair: the national headquarters at that time were in Pietermaritzburg, and KwaZulu-Natal was notable for hosting B.K.S. Iyengar himself in 1979, when he inaugurated and blessed the Institute building in PMB.
National headquarters are currently in the Western Cape, where meetings are held annually attended by representatives of the southern African regions.
