Boswell Wilkie Circus

About

The Original Boswell Wilkie Circus. No longer travelling.

Description

Let us take you on a trip down memory lane…

In 1956, Mr. W.H. Wilkie bought the ‘Wilkie Circus Farm’ in Randvaal. It served as a permanent base for training, repairs, maintenance and the manufacturing of trailers, equipment and props. It’s location was chosen due to the close proximity to the train station. Each year, the circus stopped here for a 2 week layover, where the new season’s show was rehearsed and the trucks repainted for the next 11 month tour of South Africa.

In 1964, new seating was bought from the Famous Swiss circus - Circus Knie and was shipped to South Africa. It could seat 2,500 people. The seating from Circus Knie travelled with Boswell Wilkie Circus for many years before being stored on the circus farm. Now, years later the Swiss pine wood seating planks
have been beautifully restored and converted into the stylish tables used in our wedding venue.

In 1999, The Cannobio Tent now set up on the Circus Farm, was imported from Italy and was
assembled for the first time in Durban. Performances inside our ‘Big Top’ were held all over the country to thousands of wide-eyed spectators. The ‘Big Top’ was always filled with applause, laughter and happy memories.

In 2001, Boswell Wilkie Circus performed its last show on the road, and the Wilkie family settled down on the Circus farm.

In 2002 the original house, which is well over 100 years old was converted into a Coffee Shop
- ‘Café du Cirque’. The coffee shop walls are now filled with photos and posters from the circus days, which offers our patrons their own trip down memory lane.

In 2014 the ‘Circus Stables’ were refurbished to create our wedding venue with a country ‘cirque’ feel. The stables started out as a dairy, and were later used as the stables for the circus animals. The stables through the years have also been home to zebras, goats, ponies and Shirley the pig.

2015 sees the grand opening of the Circus Wedding & Events Venue.

Been to your venue more than once, it never disappoints! Food is excellent, the atmosphere dining under the massive trees tranquil, and service always on point. Kid-friendliness: Jumping castle for the kids and large area to run about.
Food was great and plenty. Freshly prepared and was very tasteful. Coffee was great to. Circus theme inside building of days gone by. The circus train use to leave from this property to travel all over South Africa to entertain people of all ages. Garden is green and cool under the big old tree. Mountain bike trail starts and ends on the grounds.
Poor waiter was totally out of his depth. Food not at all interesting. Sauces was cold veg spring rolls mor potato than veg no garnish boring. Forgot the salad! Waffle was cold honey not syrup‍ The venue is lovely and peaceful but restaurant needs jacking up. Or waiters need to be better trained. No offer of second cup of coffee. Very sad.
I have been to this establish on multiple occasions. The service was great, the food quality is worth the price you pay and it gives a really positive small town vibe. I will definitely return to the Café 10/10!
On the premises where the Boswell Wilk circus was based, they established a great restaurant with a great menu - light meals. The variety caters for everyone. Today was the “fathers day” Sunday lunch for which you should booked in advance. We however just dropped in and ordered from their normal menu. Great fast service were provided in a really busy environment and the food was delicious.
Service was good even though the food took a bit longer than expected. But that said, the food was freshly prepared and very appetizing. Kid-friendliness: Big playground for kids to play.
Wow! For many years we just did not make it when passing by, and today we did! just one word...Awesome. Service, food, pricing and atmosphere...and it is pet friendly! as long as it has four legs, so apologies to those of you who needs to trim your pet spiders down to meet the requirements! Take a drive, only 20km from Alberton...sit back, relax and get spoiled!
2 Foccacia with 2 pizzas deal on monday. We loved it. Worth it. Taste good as well. Veg and meat.
Mouthwatering food with a massive variety to choose from. Fresh, homemade and delicious ingredients. Outside and inside seating area. The service was friendly and helpful. Decor is certainly circus inspired. No smoking in the dining area which is great. One negative point is they still have plastic straws. Would recommend to pop in.
Such a lovely place, been coming for years. Trip down memory lane
