Our student advisor Konti provided very professional support during my daughter's term at this college. We received very efficient and proactive service. I will definitely recommend the college for other learners. Well done and keep up the good work.
My daughter is doing the Art and Design course through their distance college. We have a wonderfull Studentadvisor - Didier. He is always willing to help and answer all questions. Exams that we have written there as private candidates also went smooth and we received all communication on time. Thanks for always helping.
Konti provided absolute needed guidance and advise to my daughter while studying through British International College. Konti's understanding of procedures, subjects content and consistent follow up served as a guiding light that enabled Nyikiwe the success she achieved.
I went here as a student and honestly it was the best choice my parents made for me. I went on to study in the UK and the US Harvard. Full disclosure, I teach there now, and wouldn't want to teach anywhere else. It was the first school to open after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, and academics are a major priority. Genuinely can't recommend it enough.
Words can not express my appreciation and thanks to Mr Konti Chinga at the exam administration division for excellent service, we always had a pleasant experience dealing with BIC.
BIC is a very unusual place. I was a student there from 2016 to 2020. Most of the reviews and feedback about this school fall into 2 extremes; they either scream praise from the rooftops or warn you to stay away. Usually this means one group is lying, but that isn’t the case here. To get into BIC, you need to take an IQ test. Grades are taken into the account but I don’t think they matter much. Every student at BIC is capable of great things, but only if they choose to do so. Bunking class is very easy and has almost no repercussions. The majority will go to class and work hard, but there are some students that abuse this. The teaching there is mostly great. The principal really cares about the school and the director of studies will go out of her way to help you. Most of the teachers are really talented, but there are quite a few sour grapes. I’ve had teachers disappear halfway though the year. There was a lady who couldn’t remember me or my classmate’s names, despite having taught us for almost 3 years. She was absolutely unapproachable and downright insane at times. I also had a teacher who had seemingly given up on teaching and another who barely knew what he was teaching. These teachers usually get replaced the next year but somehow there’s always at least 2 awful teachers at the school at any given time. The staff turnover rate is pretty high and the talented teachers get a lot of work dumped on them. I wish I just had a bad experience but I know that every student at BIC knows exactly what I’m talking about. The school itself is nice when viewed from the street but becomes more surreal the further in you go. Everything is in a dull shade of grey that is designed to increase concentration. I know the mural in the pool room is painted by a student, but it’s very unsettling to look at and the airport chairs don’t help much. One of the lecture rooms L6 has no windows and there is a hilariously distorted world map on the wall of the A-level area. The locker room is very claustrophobic and is often littered with paper and half-eaten sandwiches. Some of the smaller lecture rooms are crammed with an uncomfortable number of desks and a lot of them have no ventilation. The proportions are wrong, the lighting too dim and there are few things more terrifying than walking through the school when no one is around. The group operations manager is a kind man who takes his work very seriously but unfortunately there isn’t much that can be done to improve the décor inside the school. Students that come here have the tools for success and a lot of them do succeed. Many of them go to universities like MIT, LSE and IC. Its just very unfortunate for them that they have to jump through all these hoops to do so. To me, the school is a lot like Schrodinger’s cat. Everything about it is great but also not great. I think that this school could become something great. It has all the ingredients for success; smart students, talented teachers, a friendly community and a principal that really cares. I think something is seriously wrong at the upper levels of management but what do I know, I’m just some guy with too much time. Btw, a few of the 5 star reviews here are from teachers and staff
Extremely impressed to get a response to my mail giving me the reasons a Cambridge education, with Cambridge exams would be the best bet for my niece. BIC staff are trained, the discipline and facilities are top notch. To top it all - the level of teaching and exams are transportable - which means wherever the future takes her - she's got the start she would need. The world would be her oyster.
This College is a hidden gem of education in South Africa. It has a kind and warm atmosphere which allows students to prepare well for their Cambridge syllabi, and pushes students to really achieve their best in all their academics. I have been a student at the College, and I have also had the privilege of working there. I'm undoubtedly a fan. I highly recommend British International Colleges and Schools, whether it be their Preparatory school which is moving into a beautiful new building as of 2018, ask about their longer days, their golden rules and positive reinforcement; or the Bryanston and Pretoria College campuses, they really offer it all. They also offer unmatched international correspondence learning through their Distance College.
The school performs poorly in just about every measure that is important for a school. It is not even an average state school in England. Management is extremely weak. Teaching staff are mediocre and do little to assist foreign students to bridge the gap between previous schools and new, because teachers give additional tuition at additional cost in free periods and don't have the time. The headmaster is spineless to tackle the conflict of interest. The school lacks culture and values. It cannot get a handle on discipline. At the first official compulsory school event my daughter attended, drugs were freely available and the sleepy headmaster who also hosted the event had no idea. There is no meaningful sport to be spoken about. Balanced education is non existent. The building and classrooms are shoddy and poorly maintained. This is more a money spinner for investors than it is a place of learning. Avoid it if you can. There are many boutique schools that offer British education that you will be better off with.
I enrolled my child in this school. That was the worst mistake ever. There is just no care here. The principal is happy with sub par performances of students in key subjects. If you want to gamble with your kid’s future, take them to this college
