Course Content and Dates
First Aid Level 1 course (Course code FATL1)
This is the “first step” for any student wanting a certificated First Aid qualification, or potentially entering the emergency medical field. Students will be provided with a comprehensive manual, which will remain a useful reference book once the Course has been completed, and all the contents will be fully covered on the Course.
The Course is designed to equip students with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills to deal with a variety of emergency medical situations, and there will be ample opportunity to learn valuable practical skills.
The first two days will cover all the Course material. The third, half-day, will start with a revision session – where students will have the opportunity to ask questions and resolve any queries or problems – followed by an hour examination paper and then a practical skills evaluation. By the end of the day, the results will be available. In order to graduate, students must obtain at least 75% on the theory paper and must perform correctly in all critical aspects of the practical exam. Students will receive a CPR mouthpiece, gloves and a key-ring, and recognized certification which remains valid for three years.
Class size 5 to 8 students.
AHA Family & Friends Course (Course code FATA1)
This Course, designed by the American Heart Association, is specifically designed for parents with young children, and people who take care of children on a regular basis. After the three- to four-hour Course, there will be no formal examination, but an assessment will be made of the student’s practical skills. A manual will be provided, but no certificate will be issued.
The aim of the Course is to provide students with the confidence, knowledge and ability to deal with medical emergencies in and around their own environment.
The Course can take place at our Training Room, or at a suitable off-site venue such as a crèche, school, or mother-and-baby group.
Class size 5 to 8 students.
AHA Family and Friends Course PLUS a talk by a G.P. on children’s health problems (Course code FATA2)
This four- to five-hour Course covers the same material as the Family & Friends course, with the addition of a valuable and informative talk by Dr Alan Walters on health problems that young children may experience. Dr Walters has over thirty years of experience in dealing with the health problems of children and families. Class size 5 to 8 students.
Heart Savers AED course (Course code FATA3)
This four-hour Course is designed for individuals who have previously passed a First Aid course and are wishing to increase their clinical skills. AED’s (Automated External Defibrillator’s) are becoming more widely available at public sites such as shopping centres, airports, industrial units, and large office blocks, and it is therefore important that health practitioners are comfortable with their practical operation. The Course will equip students with the skills required for the appropriate use of such equipment.
Class size 5 to 8 students.
Heart Savers AED plus First Aid course (Course code FATA4)
This full-day Course is aimed at teaching people who do not have a formal First Aid qualification, the practical skills and appropriate use of A.E.D.’s (Automated External Defibrillator’s). In addition there will be a short First Aid course. The Course is not a certified First Aid qualification, but students will be issued with a CMR Training Academy certificate of satisfactory attendance.
Class size 5 to 8 students.
BLS for Health-Care providers (Course code FATA5) (14 CPD points)
This six-hour Course is designed exclusively for qualified health-care professionals (such as nurses, doctors, dentists and paramedics), to update these professionals on the latest AHA CPR practices, and the use of the latest AED devices. Satisfactory attendance qualifies students for 14 CPD points. Class size 5 to 6 students.
