Call All South African Traditional / Cultural Groups and Individual to Participate
« Folklore (or traditional and popular culture) is the totality of tradition-based creations of a cultural community, expressed by a group of individuals and recognized as reflecting the expectations of a community insofar as they reflect its cultural identity and social identity; its standards and values are transmitted orally, by imitation or by other means ».
CIOFF®-SA is embarking on a journey to organize South Africa's Folklore in order to create enabling circumstances to transmit it throughout the future generations of its people. Hardly seen as having an intrinsic and potential value to contribute to the economy of a country, Folklore has the potential to give South Africa a distinct face, beauty, pride, honour and indeed an identity that stands above the rest in the continent. Folklore is indeed the opportunity in the waiting, to give South Africa's African Renaissance form, texture, feel and leadership - towards peace, talent development, poverty alleviation, and reconciliation at home in the continent and internationally. Over the past years CIOFF has come to master the art to maintain peace and strengthen friendship between countries through the promotion of the Folklore arts and Traditional cultures internationally. This process has benefited countries by promoting their intangible cultures and heritage, and a boost in cultural tourism and investments. The aim of the National Section of CIOFF South Africa is to maintain peace, strengthen reconciliation and friendship among the multi-racial and cultural society of South Africans, between countries, and to promote international understanding particularly of South African Folklore in the context of the African Renaissance.
