Clarens Bakery

This is one of the sweetest bakeries in South Africa!! We walked in to the warm, cosy and magical smell and sight of freshly baked milk tart!! It was heaven on earth. The staff were friendly and wonderful to meet. They were full of smiles and kindness. The coffee was also unbelievably amazing. I'm stoked we got to stop over at this beautiful place. I wish I could have taken some more of the delights with me. We are definitely coming back. Awesome place with even better baked good.

Once you're greeted by the overpriced menu, you'll receive a mediocre breakfast - but wait, not everyone will receive the breakfast, you might find 1 person in your family didn't receive the meal they ordered. Upon asking where the meal is, you'll get told there was a misunderstanding with the chef, but you won't just be told that, you have to go and ask what the issue is. On top of that, coffee was like milk with sugar, a wildly underwhelming experience, there's MUCH better places in Clarens and they're cheaper.

My husband and I visited Clarens for the weekend and decided to try the Clarens Bakery for breakfast. Well priced, I had the 3 egg omelette with cheese, mushrooms and bacon and my hubby had one of the breakfasts. Both were absolutely delicious! So much so that we returned the next day for a snack on the way back from Golden Gate. I had a waffle with ice cream.... very disappointed... the waffle was undercooked and the ice cream was more ice than cream.... so a very mixed opinion.

I haven’t had such a wonderful donut in years! Wow! Their donuts are highly recommendable! So crispy :

Stopped at the bakery for some milktart, espresso and red cappuccino. Milk tart was exquisite, espresso was nice and strong. The red cappuccino was a bit of a let down.

Great signage and easy to find when you enter town turn far left past the gasstation. The bakery has a variety of freshly baked goods including jams and rusks and displayed invitingly except that flies can get in the way since its summer. A net or some protection is recommended to keep flies at bay. Friendly staff and very helpful.

Be careful of their card payments. You pay and they say it did not go through, and get double charged. Service is slow, if you get any. Not recommend

The best bakery in Clarens. A short walk out of town past Protea hotel but it is definitely worth the little hike. If you are coming to, leaving, or passing Clarens you anyway cannot miss the place as it is right next to the filling station. Prices are very fair and you can always ask the very friendly personnel what has been freshly baked on that very day. We tried the milk tart. You can also buy local honey and jams etc. Parking is available right in front of the bakery. Coffee shop, small super market and butchery are right next door.

The best baked goods! Apples pie is next level aswell as the cinnamon buns. Can’t wait to go back and eat there again.

Best espresso of our trip. Excellent way to shop for the delicious baked goods on offer.
