CompliMed was formed in 2003 when it became apparent that medical schemes were unable to keep up with the rising cost of in-hospital specialist treatment. Medical schemes were limiting their liability, effectively moving part of the risk across to the member, creating a shortfall. CompliMed identified this as an opportunity to create a short term insurance product that would assist the member in being able to pay the difference between what their specialist charged for an in-hospital procedure and what the scheme was prepared to pay.
What started out as a "nice-to-have" product back in 2003 has now evolved into an absolute necessity for anyone on a medical scheme. Over the years medical schemes have reduced their benefits, created co-payments and deductibles on certain listed procedures while limiting their overall liability on others. This coupled with the fact that specialists have continued to increase their fees has had the effect of creating significant financial shortfalls for clients. We do not see this trend changing anytime soon and will therefore continue to offer an affordable range of gap cover products to the market.
CompliMed as a product distributor continue to look for opportunities to distribute other quality value-add healthcare products, besides gap cover. Dental Insurance, health insurance and funeral cover are just some of the newly introduced products to our range. These products are then sold to clients through a network of Independent and Corporate healthcare brokers who have contracted with Complimed and become accredited to market our product range to their clients.
