The service is terrible. Psychiatrist very clinical & made it seem like she explained things properly but when I looked at the script I was surprised to see a med on there that wasn’t explained. Asked if I could ask questions about the meds as I was then apprehensive about taking them, and got a very rude message back in all caps saying I’m not allowed to ask about my meds. The admin woman was then supposed to send the statement so it could be submitted to medical aid and just never did. & now when I ask for the statement, they’re on leave & the person covering for them refuses to help me with sending the statement. Mind you they didn’t inform customers, well at least me, that they were going on leave. They’ve left me with a very untrustworthy & incompetent impression, and they don’t seem to act with care.
Few weeks back was at a very dark place in my life that I Was admitted at Akeso Crescent and that was the best decision I made . The staff go beyond and above to make u feel welcome and want to fight for your life. I wished a lot of hospital gave the same care. The nurses are out of this world, kitchen staff out of this world. The learning I walk tall becouse of everything I got from this hospital. The doctors also out of this world.
All the help is available through classes that are offered all day. I attended classes from 8-5 this gives great coping skills. Food is really good. Rooms are comfortable.
I saw Dr ethel thekiso on 20/12/2021 and it was a terrible experience. She was late with no explanation or apology, cold, wrote me a prescription and did not explain it in the least. Her secretary had me pay before I even saw the doctor. I did not return to her and I highly discourage wasting your money with her. Rather try kloof road medical center.
I am absolutely furious about the treatment my young daughter received here from Dr Sarvani Pather and team!!! After calling the nurses to check on her at the end of her first day of admission I was told she had been crying alot and had been asking for her cellphone I immediately knew that something was wrong and went to fetch her. I found my daughter deeply traumatized and in alot of discomfort after she was forced to eat foods that she is allergic to with Dr's sitting close by and telling her to eat a few more spoons. She was then treated with pills for anxiety after having an anxiety attack because of this. Further to this she was not allowed to go to toilet after her tummy became upset from what she was forced to eat!!! This was after numerous discussions regarding her allergies and how severe they were!!! THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN!!! Be very very careful before having your kids admitted/treated here!!!
I missed my appointment today and I called them 2 hours after only cause I wasn’t able to wake up on time due to loadshedding turning off my alarm and they refused to reschedule or assist and took my last money and just said I should pay again for another session even though this is the session I needed to keep my current occupation to earn money so I don’t become homeless now I’ll lose my job because of my phone not working without electricity can no one help it cost over 3k for the appointment and they can’t assist .
The entire staff at Akeso Crescent in Randburg especially my psychiatrist Dr Marie Buchner & my psychologist Dianne Moses helped me to change my life for the better.Their patience, love, support, kindness and outstanding professionalism motivated me to conquer my fears, manage my depression and live a life that I deserve filled with positivity, hope and belief in myself. The outpatient service and care is just as excellent. Akeso Randburg is the best facility to help anyone diagnosed with mental illness.
Crescent Clinic has improved. Food is better prepared, although there are no seconds. Lol! . Dr Lumu is the best! She gets to the point without being invasive and focuses on recovery not on the problem. I like the fact that she delegates, she doesn't want to appear as a "know it all." Dr Shapiro is amazing - asks the hard questions, makes therapy enjoyable. Contrary to what may have said, nurses are really cool. Very attentive to patients' needs and keep their "ndabas" to themselves. I haven't seen or heard them discussing a patient in front of other patients, which I feel it's respectful. The place is clean, housekeeping attends to their duties without invading anyone's space. They leave things as they are, if you wanted them like so. OTs are very helpful with their groups. Trying to push the boundaries and assist with deeper issues in a relaxed setting. Enjoying the groups. Caution: perhaps they can dial down, eve on context, about using vulgar words, it doesn't sit well with everyone, just a thought.
This has to be one of the top psychiatric units in the country, that also has a specialised Eating Disorder Unit. A very worthwhile program for a patient who is highly motivated to overcome their eating disorder, tackling it on all fronts. Lectures are age specific. The lectures in particular for adult general psychiatric patients suffering from adrenal burn out from the corporate world are excellent. Very informative and useful. This clinic also has a Chemical dependency unit, with onsite 12-step meetings on most nights. Beautiful small garden with a swimming pool, and out door smokers area.
In 2019, I spent 3 weeks in the young adolescent facility and the sessions were phenomenal regarding the occupational therapists, Monique and Megan. Everything was coordinated well and I learnt a lot from them. Anyone you want to speak to, they're always there for you. Regarding my personalised psychiatrist, my sessions would only consist of 3 questions, then it was basically done. However, that was my psychiatrist, I cannot say the same for others. I felt like she wouldn't guide me or give me support but rather prescribe me medication. In terms of my "counsellor", he was not really supportive and was more of a "give me answers" kind of guy. Which isn't what I personally believe a counsellor should do. It would've been nice if my psychiatrist and counsellor actually showed interest in my personal affairs and situation other than just sus-ing me out and giving me an interview. It's not nice, especially for the costs of their services. Food was always great. No question there. Exercises were great and empowering. Lots of shady things go on within the adolescent sector that the nurses don't see. As a former YAP, I saw a lot I didn't need to see or hear. People from the DDU section would ask us YAPS to meet them by the tuck-shop at night to do the dirty... Yeah, I'd say nurses need to stop being gullible, teens lie. Overall, amazing place for treatment. However, if you don't like something, voice it out and don't tolerate it. At the end of the day, that's money down the drain. Thanks Akeso.
