Daniell Cheetah Project

About

Daniell Cheetah Project was established in May 2001 and started with just three cats. It has since grown with breeding, purchase and swapping of animals.

Description

The aim of the project is to play a part in conservation of the Cheetah (Acinonyx Jubatus), the re-establishment of pure gene lines, as well as educating the public to the importance of conserving of this amazing species. The Daniell Cheetah Project was established in May 2001 and started with just three cats and has grown since.

We offer unique educational tours through the project by trained tour guides. On the tour you will be able to meet and learn more about Meerkats, Servals, Caracals, Cheetahs, Leopards, Lions and Hyenas. The tours are open daily from 09:00-16:00. During this tour guest will also be given the opportunity to enter a cheetah enclosure and if the moment allows it to pet a cheetah as well. We offer you two different tours; the Predator Tour and also the Cheetah Walk.

The Predator tour is R90 pp 14 years and up, R60 for kids ages 5-13, and free for kids 4 years and under. Children under the age of 14 as well as people shorter than 1.5m are not allowed in the enclosure with the cheetah.

The Cheetah Walk needs to be booked 2 days in advance and is R300pp, kids under 14 years are not allowed on the Walk.

Daniell Cheetah Project also has other attractions. At our Padstal and you can browse for gifts and African Arts at reasonable prices and at the Coffee Shop, tea and coffee and light meals can be ordered for take-away or sit-down meals.

Also next to the shop there are some orphaned wild animals guests can interact with - we now also have a touch farm for the small ones where they can play with bunnies and guinea pigs while varies birds (parrots, budgies, doves, etc.) fly around them.

We are open 7 days a week (except 25th & 26th December and January 1st), and can be found on the R75 national road, 40km from Uitenhage and just 80km from the Port Elizabeth airport.

Mission

The aim of the project is to play a part in conservation of the Cheetah (Acinonyx Jubatus), the re-establishment of pure gene lines (through controlled breeding), as well as educating the public to the importance of conserving of this amazing species.

"According to studies, the entire cheetah species neared extinction if drastic conservation effort were not taken. Due to extremely low population numbers, the wild cheetahs had very little mating choices, which lead to the inbreeding of our wild cheetah population. The inbreeding caused a lot of defects to surface in the cheetah genes as well as weakened immune systems. After the owner and founder of Daniell Cheetah Project, Richard Daniell, was enlightened about the status of the Cheetah, he decided that an animal that stunning must be saved. He started the Daniell Cheetah Project in 2001 on his family farm with just three Cheetahs. The project has since increased, not only in cheetah numbers, but also to include other wildlife species."

was an amazing experience and learned a lot. Had a very well informed guide and the animals looked happy and very well taken care of Restrooms: was very clean and I felt comfortable using the facility
An undiscovered jewel in the Eastern Cape! A small farm “dorpie” with a friendly and chilled environment. Admission charge very reasonable and The shop had some awesome pies and refreshment snacks as well as plenty of beautiful hand made curios and they were really at give away prices! Our guide, Jandré was very informative, both in terms of highlighting an animal’s history but also explaining why they do and don’t do things. The kiddies loved the play area and petty farm with all the various animals Such important work is being done here to maintain the endangered cat species. I would definitely recommend this experience day trip if you in the area. It’s only about 70km east drive from Nelson Mandela Bay. Definitely worth the drive! #DaniellCheetahProject #kirkwood #cats #farm #roar #adventure #familyfun #easterncape #madibabay #portelizabeth #memories #savethecheetah
Very friendly staff. Thank you for helping us to get to PE. But honestly I feel sorry to the cats, seems like they are trapped. I hope they have a bigger space. However, nice place to stop
Had a great experience at Daniell Cheetah Project. Our guide, Kayla, was well-informed, professional and humorous, and the animals are well looked after. Definitely worth the visit.
Passing through We just made a stop at the padstals. Stocks a variety of sauces preserves biscuits sweets drinks and plenty more. Good place to grab a gift ornaments and second hand home/glassware. Lovely indoor and outdoor eating areas. Food was taste, rustic serving plated on boards.
Me and my friend just finished volunteering here. It was one of our best choices we got so far. They have a lot of cats, each one better than the other. The staff are so friendly, and they love the animals so much. They let you feel that you are more than welcome there. The work there is not that hard and you have a lot of time to spend with the cats. Long story short, there are not a lot of places that touch your heart in such a short time, and Daniell Cheetah Project is one of them! And I will use this platform to say again to all the staff thank you so much for this adventure, I hope that I will be able to come back for long time.
An amazing project ! Doing such an incredible job with conservation. Very helpful and friendly staff with delicious food. Highly recommend !
Our tour guide was well informed and shared a wealth of interesting information on the animals in their care. The shop is an experience in itself and the food is good and priced for locals. In fact nothing is priced at the inflated tourist rates. Worth the visit.
Awesome place. Well done to Richard and team. Great coffee. Looking at the different cats is outstanding. To touch a cheetah is unbelievable. Go and experience something awesome it's worth it.
Was a lovely tour and very informative. You can see the animals are really well taken care of and they're like family to the staff.
