I had a chicken salad and the chicken was really well grilled on a fire! I wish there would have been more options for non-fried food especially seafood and vegetables. The chicken liver starter was delicious and big, my friend’s ribs were good french fries were soggy. The waitress was really sweet! we had fun evening and the food was super tasty after a long day of climbing.
I was recommended by another restaurant owner that De Kelder has the best pizzas in town, so I popped past that Saturday evening. I truly wasn't impressed! Firstly, the inside area is quite spartan, plain and cold. Secondly, the cacophony of noise that echoed through the place was so loud that I went outside and sat in my car to wait for my pizza. Thirdly, the pizza itself was ordinary with a slightly-burnt base and rather tasteless ingredients. For the price, it was sadly lacking. I was hungry, though, and didn't feel like going through the experience again, so gulped the whole thing down and left. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to De Kelder.
WOW WOW whilst road tripping SA we came across De Kelder restaurant, and is the food glorious WOW, with very friendly staff and such a gorgeous view
Centrally located in Clanwilliam. Spacious and cool in summer. Menu is great. Service is great. Food is great. Big screen TV's for sporting events.
Great food with stunning views and atmosphere. The go to restaurant for friends and family in the area. Enjoy a pizza, burger, steak or anything you like with your favourite drink. The menu covers everything for everyone.
It’s easy to miss the entrance to De Kelder, which is sandwiched between KFC and the Caltex convenience store in Clanwilliam. But once you get upstairs there is a great vibe. It seems to be more of a drinking kind of place on a Saturday afternoon, and even more so when there’s a big game of rugby on. In fact the kitchen only opens at 6pm, although you can order a pizza at any time. That seems a bit strange, in the days when Clanwilliam was a “one horse town” it might have made sense, but it’s far from that now. I really couldn’t fault the food, my rump steak was done exactly medium rare and was delicious. The service was a bit slow, had to work hard to attract the waiter’s attention, but maybe she was still learning. A great view of the mountains from the restaurant, and good food. Now if ONLY they were open for lunch.
Average service and value meals. Burgers not that great as advised!! Pizza's very nice.
Great Food and Friendly Staff
So pleased that Velskoendraai turned us away for lunch, even though they only had two R tables they were currently serving. We ended up being referred by the to De Kelder. Stunning views, great service and the best calamari and Hake I have had in a long time.
Located in Clanwilliam, Western Cape, I found it an interesting place. Not very welcoming to strangers unfortunately. Placed a dine in order and waited over two hours for the meal with locals getting first preference. Ended having to do a takeaway with the meal as we ran out of time. Staff very edgy and judgemental to those they don't know. Clearly a small town mentality is prevalent here and aggressive training for staff can remedy this behaviour.
