Dr Wertheimer is knowledgeable, sure. And he has all the expensive equipment to boot. But he did not treat me well. He was very condescending to me. He was rude to me on more than one occasion - first and second consultation. When I first went to him, I asked about costs. I wanted at least a general idea or ballpark of what it would cost me. I had a budget and have so many financial obligations so I knew that I need to know what I'm getting into before I pay anything. These were concerns I expressed to Dr. Wertheimer. He did not respond about the costs issue even though I asked him over and over like I said, I had told him my budget and only wanted a general idea. After the consultation, just a few minutes which cost me R1000, I was told I needed scans and I was like "OK". I paid about R5000 for those. When I went for consultation, I got a quote that is double the amount I had budgeted. If I had gotten an idea or some sort of ballpark of what treatment would cost, I would have known that this is probably not for me at this time and not borrow money from the bank to pay for the scans - R5000. During that consultation, when I was leaving, I said, "I would take my time to think about this. Sorry." He said, "that is fine. I'm not holding a gun to your head". What he said made me feel a certain type of way; that was just rude and unnecessary. During that same consultation, I asked whether I could skip a procedure he suggested. Rather than explain to me why the procedure is necessary, he said "if you aren't going to do this procedure, I can't treat you". Isn't it helpful to explain everything clearly to a patient? I am entitled to ask all the questions I was asking. I was the one who would be responding for paying almost a 100 grand for braces. I felt somehow the way I was spoken to. That is not what you expect when you go to a doctor you pay thousands to consult. I did my research and Googled orthodontists. He had good reviews and expected a good experience or at least politeness. I am quite disappointed. There are positive comments about him by people who happened to have a different experience. I didn't have a good experience.
Avoided writing a review and decide to express my concerns in-person. I asked him to inform me of what he was going to do and why since it's my mouth and I'll be the one affected by those changes. Only for him to reveal what an unpleasant, ignorant and indifferent doctor he is by literally saying "whatever". I mean, the qualifications you have can only take you far enough. The rest of it is you being showing humanity, care, respect, actually making reasonable attempts at establishing relationships with your clients, and taking their concerns seriously. Also, I can also relate to some of reviews posted such as the fact that he is a bit rough and some of his comments are unnecessary. Thus, this is a well-earned negative review. Other than that, lovely staff and professional practices.
I highly recommend Dr. Mark Wertheimer as an orthodontist - I had braces for over 4 years and none of the orthos I saw actually knew what they were doing until I saw him. Mark gives his patients personal attention - ie, not some assistant doing the work, really is affordable vs other quotes I got and offers payment plans. He is also a really nice man and has an excellent bedside manner!
Dr Mark is the best! His knowledge, treatment and results are brilliant and added to that, he is a truly nice, friendly and approachable person. Highly recommended! Thank you so much!

Dr Mark Wertheimer is an amazing orthodontist! I had lingual braces braces at the back of my teeth and the results were truly incredible. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend Dr Mark to anyone!

Would not recommend to anyone - extremely poor approach to patients, unnecessary teeth extraction and poor understanding of dental needs of a black child. Wertheimer made my child cry on almost every visit. He was rough and made the dental procedures very uncomfortable - this was never a problem with our previous orthodontist. When a bracket fell off while my child was still in the dental chair, he somehow managed to blame my son instead of taking responsibility himself. Now that we have returned to New York, our orthodontist is shocked. He feels Dr Wertheimer pulled teeth unnecessarily, does not understand the dental growth or requirements of a black child (or his type of overbite) and placed brackets in the wrong place. After a year with Dr Wertheimer, my son's teeth are in worse shape than when we arrived. Avoid this practice!
