It’s a vision come to life for Ubuntu champion Lereko Ntshona, who grew up in Alice. While there is nothing conventional about eDikeni, setting it apart is the floor arrangement. With different areas of the establishment selectively named after the villages that surround the valley of eDikeni in the Eastern Cape. This is at least $$$. 6 chicken wings were R175 which some may say are 12 because the flapper and drummer were attached as 1 wing, and the Bunny Chow lamb’s neck in a sauce over bread was R195 and a 10% tip is automatically added to your check it was just the 2 of us. Bottle beer and cider were average costs at R40. The service was OK the server seemed to forget our second order of drinks so we had to flag down another server. The food was very delicious though. Be aware that the toilets are outside of the restaurant- they seem to be shared by the other restaurants in the plaza.
Absolutely amazing food! My word. And it was so reasonably priced. Everyone at my table loved what they ate, some ordered a meal to go just so they could have it again the next day. The restaurant is placed so well in a closed off area but surrounded by other restaurants, it makes for a great atmosphere. The waiter was so polite, even asked if the volume wasn't too loud for us. We will definitely be visiting again, hopefully we'll catch a performance next time. Vegetarian options: There are possibly only 2 or 3 items. Kid-friendliness: Maybe leave the kids at home for this one. Parking: It was paid parking but covered and super safe. Also had multiple security personnel.
Seemed a bit disorganized. We were told only set menu was on offer but other tables had other menu options. It's a cozy place but seems has special events that add to the vibe. Outside of that, it's kinda dead. Has great potentialFood: 3/5
Such a great experience. Good food. Good service. Good ambience. They also have live music sometimes and sip and paint on Sundays.
The ambience, decor and contemporary African feeling, make for a welcomed change from the deluge of uniform trendy European style offerings in Sandton. If there is a point to improve, it would be the food offering. Portion sizes are underwhelming and some dishes are a bit dry.
Good food, vibe and atmosphere. But the show we attended was not nice in terms of the space and the setup it lacked the intimacy we were looking for. The sound was bad, the speaker facing outside was terrible. Maybe if the live show was outside I would have enjoyedFood: 3/5
Beautiful place however food is frequently not yet ready. Went on 4 different occasions. The 1st time,food was well prepared and mouth watering. 2nd & 3rd time food was still being prepared ,it was 13h00 already. So ended up not ordering. The 4th time ,the only dish that was available was chicken and dumpling. I was disappointed as I wanted to try something different from my 1st visit. Nonetheless we settled for that , the food tasted totally different. I am discouraged to even attempt going again
Awesome food, Awesome service, awesome people in general. I truly loved my time there. I ordered the Frikadele not sure of the spelling The manager is the best, she really took take of me when I was there. Thank you Emma and the whole team.
I had dinner last Wed and it was dead quiet. I was disappointed that they didn't have Soweto draught but I was glad to have tried Mogodu, very unusual dish in Western world but familiar in Asian.
Outstanding African Cape Malay Chicken Curry and Ox Tongue. So tender and mouth watering. Ambience is perfect. Soweto draught beer on tap! We will be returning.
