Stay away! I've waited for over a year to post this review because I didn't want them to cause any issues with my case. My partner and I approached Du Toit Attorneys because of an unlawful dismissal and we liked the idea of an all lady team as we didn't think that they would take advantage of my partner. We clearly told them that we do not have much money and that they must quote us exactly what they require to do the case Submitting & preparing for CCMA conciliation and if the price was too high we were not going to proceed because it was a low paying job as an au pair. They quoted us an amount which was accepted. They also informed us that under no circumstances would they go over what they quoted and that they would contact us first before they did ANY additional work. They then proceeded to submit our case to the CCMA and then sent us an invoice for additional costs for work which had already been done. We paid and continued. They then submitted another additional cost a few weeks later, which we paid because we had already dumped all our money into this. A few days before the conciliation, they had not prepared us at all, they sent another invoice for almost 50% of the original quote to proceed with conciliation. Which was one of the original items which we were quoted on We did not have any money left and could not proceed. They did not prepare us for conciliation at all and we went in their completely blind and got absolutely nothing resolved. They under-quoted us so they could get the job because they were aware that we did not have loads of money to spend and wanted to get what they could from us. You took advantage of a young girl who was unfairly dismissed from her first job. At the end of the day, we paid almost double what they quoted and they wanted more before doing what they originally quoted for! They also could not even get my email address right, even after we repeatedly requested to please update my email and cc me in all correspondence. Very concerning that they can't even get an email address correct. I'm sure they will comment saying that I was not a customer, which is right on track with my experience with them. Be careful unless you have a lot of money to throw away. To be fair to them, the work they did when they weren't invoicing was decent, the admin was absolutely terrible but our assigned lawyer was actually lovely and extremely knowledgeable, such a shame that they are so money hungry. Response to owner: You quoted us R6500 for a letter and CCMA conciliation proceedings. I made 4 payments over the course of 3 weeks which totaled to over R12 000 and did not even get any advice for the conciliation proceedings which was included in your original quote! Being 10%, 20% or even 30% over your quote is understandable, but not more than double. Then you sent me an email asking for an additional R5000 over and above what I had already paid before you would even proceed with the conciliation. Disgusting asking for R17 000 for something you quoted R6500 for. I suggest you go back and look at the correspondence and invoices YOU sent out. You will also see that your quote includes "To receive, peruse and consider all client documents" so please do not pretend that you did us a favour. You took advantage of us.

The lawyer that assisted us was very kind and helpful but the firm itself only cares about money and does not know how to accurately quote for their services.
