I just love this place from the easy going atmosphere to the food and drinks. The chicken pesto pizza is so delicious!! The cappuccino and milk tart combo are an absolute winner! I will be back
I love finding places like this. I’ve had it “bookmarked” for quite some time, but I hardly venture out to the Benoni area these days. Was looking for a breakfast spot nearby Northmead over the weekend as we were in the area and remembered this place. Located next to a church, it is a large space inside, with quirky details to it. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and the cakes are eye catching. The Food and Drinks menu are up on the walls, and yes the menu is a bit limited. You need to order and pay at the counter for your order, which at the end of the meal it only dawned on me how do you give a tip? So unless you add it while ordering, which obviously I didn’t, there is a jar on the counter for tips, which is apparently split between all staff at the end of the day/week. The food was delicious, I know with the breakfast options not everyone is a fan of balsamic on their food, but mine was ok, I had the “English muffin one” – 2 Fried Eggs, Bacon, Creamy sauce on an English Muffin. My egg was cooked right, enough Bacon on the muffin, and a tasty sauce. My mom had the “Small One” which is once slice of toast, one egg, bacon, and balsamic tomatoes. My Cappuccino was really good, and the presentation was soo pretty. Loved the cups and saucer used. My mom had the “Real” Strawberry Milkshake, and you could taste the flavour and the consistency was spot on. The cakes are baked daily, and they have a good variety. They had Carrot Cakes, Chocolate Cakes, Brownies, Scones, Cheesecakes which all looked delicious. Prices are pretty reasonable, and the best part, as part of the Church they help support a home in the nearby area, by assisting young kids to learn and grow into adults, and teach them life skills. So this is definitely a place to support as much as you can, and it helps that the food is superb, the cakes are delectable and the staff are so warm and welcoming. Thanks Tozzy for great service with a smile. If you in the area go check the out. #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeersDrinks #TheFoodMusketeerApproved #TFMGrassRootz
What a hidden gem! The decor is really nice and modern. The establishment has a nice fresh menu. They also have handmade items that are sold there. Food was good and well presented.
As always the Webbers have done it again. Awesome food, good quality, good service and the BEST coffee... I was so excited to eat my wrap chicken with extra avo and feta, no garnish that I almost forgot to take a picture. Well done! 6 November 2020 Ordered the pizza special today. Oh my word! Best pizza ever! Treat your family and make the effort to visit Grassrootz for some pizza!!!
This place has been on my list since I first heard about it ages ago. The decor is eclectic with a mix of industrial, hipster and housewife chic. Its all order before you sit so if you pop in do yourself a favour and head straight for the counter - you won't get helped at all otherwise There are signs. The staff are friendly and helpful although we did wait a bit for our meal. We decided on Grassrootz for an early meeting so it was all about coffee and hot chocolates followed by a light meal. I decided to go for a toasted sandwich - Pastrami, Mozerrela and Onion Marmalade It comes with a really light summer salad. The menu is simple and its mainly toasted sandwiches and tramezzini's. They also have cake, muffins etc. Everything was great and I will definitely be back to try some of the other items on the menu.
I had a hankering for somewhere new on a saturday afternoon, so a close friend recommended Grassrootz to us. I loved the look of the place when we first arrived. They're going for that loft style, exposed brick, industrial feel. There was a wood fire pizza oven on full display. My only turn off asthetically was that their office area is on the same floor as the shop, and though they tried to separate the areas with the room divider, it did not achieve what they had hoped. I craved a cuppaccino as soon as we walked in from smelling the coffee wafting around the shop. We ordered a standard cuppaccino and a red cuppaccino. Both were well made with an impressive foam and lovely patterned top. I had their chicken burger and my partner their basil and sundried tomato toastie. Very flavourful both, however the chips were "meh", expected something a little more artisanal, perhaps hand cut for eg. Their waiting staff are clearly local teenagers, but their training left something to be desired, we were waited on by 3 different waiters, one of which seemed to have been the barista. We were not checked in on by a manager or owner, who was walking around the back of the store between the office and the barista area, a greeting is something you would expect from a small place like that. One would blame that on a busy coffee shop, however it was also not busy, we were 1 of 3 tables seated. In all the experience was not terrible, however the quality of the food and the prices charged were not quite matching. I would not not go back, but I hope somewhere along the line some things are improved.
Grassrootz has an amazing vibe!!! I just love coming here no matter what mood I'm in, the place caters for my needs :
Excellent venue! They were so kind as to let us have a photoshoot and rearrange some furniture for good photos. Great coffee! Will definitely be back to taste the pizza.
Much better since the new management took over. Service of the waiters is faster and you do not wait so long for your coffee and food anymore ... Definitely an improvement!
Grassrootz is a beautifully laid out, inviting coffee shop and eatery 'hidden' just down the road from Benoni High, Hoërskool Hans Moore and Benoni Northerns Sports Fields. If you're from one of the surrounding neighbourhoods it's a great spot to work when load shedding hits, with ample plug points and, of course, great coffee large cappuccino R32. The coffee beans are freshly roasted in-house. The focacia and toasted sandwiches are good, and breakfasts are reasonably priced. I've never been when it's overly busy, so service is prompt and most importantly a great alternative to my "work from home office" even if it's just to grab a quick cup of coffee and slice of cake while I wait for the kids to finish school.
