Stunning walks. Beautiful scenery all year round. Sad that fire destroyed portions of the vegetation, but this resulted in new life & amazing bright green - which, in contrast with the charcoal, makes for exceptional photography opportunities. Enjoy DYI picnics on sunny days. Remember your own water. Highly recommend buying an annual pass, that includes motor vehicle entrance. If you plan to be a frequent visitor, an annual pass would be well worth it.
My first time at Helderberg Nature Reserve, we had a work meeting at the new eco building. It's incredibly well designed and one of the best I've seen. Would love to come back for a hike soon.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNot sure
Easy access, friendly parks officials, and well kept trails are a cherry on top of a wonderful Western Cape nature area that is teaming with wild flowers, proteas and breathtaking views on a clear day. Trail offer a variety of challenges for casual to enthusiastic hiking aficionados.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
One of the few nature reserves with good amenities! A strange drive to find the main entrance, but a beautiful reserve with plenty parking and picnic spots. Hiked the Leopard loop, which has very few flat spots to rest your legs, so be prepared to walk uphill all the way The top gives a breathtaking view of the Helderberg region, with a wonderful stream that provides shade and refreshing water at the beginning of your descent. Picnic area: Plenty large areas for families to picnic on, which aren't too far from the parking area.
Been going to this wonderful reserve for years. You can buy an annual membership card for individuals and families...well worth it if you live in the area or visit regularly. This weekend I visited for the first time since the fire in June. The reserve was ravaged but signs of new growth are everywhere. Gloriously green ferns and other hardy plants blanket the ground. The abundant watsonias are going to be stunning when they flower. Kudos to staff and volunteers for all their work in getting the trails sorted so we can hike. They are not done with the work yet, but I spent a few peaceful hours meandering through the reserve. Sometimes it was eerily quiet, sometimes I heard birdsong. And here and there a pop of pretty colour as flowers emerge from the scorched ground. The new Eco Centre is amazing. I need to make time to visit it properly. Playground: There is a grassed picnic area under the trees in this beautiful reserve...sadly the playground equipment was damaged by the recent fire and has been removed. Restrooms: Lovely clean restrooms with plenty of loo paper...yes, that can be a thing. Soap, sanitizer and running water. No handpaper towels. No mirrors. But very adequate for its purpose.
Always wonderful to visit. A walk up to West Peak today. Such fun! Breathtaking scenery and views. Restrooms: Clean and in good order. Dog-friendliness: No dogs allowed. Picnic area: Great options for a picnic here.
Attended a workshop, wow I was blown away at the state of the building we were in,it was snuild from recycling material, hiking trial not so exhausting, the whole place is so peaceful and serene.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Beautiful, well-kept nature reserve. Great for hiking, picnicking or spend some time bird-watching at the dam. Small entrance fee applies, best to park outside and walk in if you want to avoid the vehicle fee. Students and scholars qualify for discounted rates.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Reasonably priced, beautiful nature reserve for hikes or picnic's. Some of the hikes take you all the way to the mountains in the back. Would love to come back and do some of those hikes in the futureVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
