Market theater

I went to the opening of Ruined, a play written by Lynn Nottage and directed by Clive Mathibe his picture with me is somewhere amongst these ones. This was in August 2022. The play was performed in the John Kani theatre. I am not sure if this is the biggest theatre in the complex, but it can house more than 100 people. Perhaps even more than 200. And it overs good seats, no matter where you sit in the theatre. There is also a cash bar if you want to have drinks or snacks. The Market Theatre complex can house disabled people and there are ushers to assist you if you need directions or any other queries. Over all, it was nice to be back at a theatre again and to see a live performance post the covid19 pandemic and the social restrictions. Kudos to The Market Theatre for keeping the arts industry in Johannesburg alive.

Great variety of shows, affordable as well. Clean and well maintained. Covid 19 protocols adhered to. Parking easily accessible at Newtown junction mall, be vigilant when walking from there to the theatre. I’d advise that one arrives a few minutes earlier to allow screening and better seat choice.

The Market Theatre is Joburg’s greatest gem. Great productions and brilliant actors. Plus, the actors are always willing to interact with audience members after their performances.

The place is very good, was so disappointed with parking. they must sort out the parking issue. You have to park streets away other building and walk back on unsafe street. That's unsafe especially in our Jozi streets.

I am a fan of Market Theatre. They generally have at least one good show playing there in a month... Often more.

I went for a music festival right outside the market theatre which was completely free! It was fantastic! Toen is not the safest area but if you want to feel and experience raw culture in its prime beauty. This is the place to be.

It was an incredible experience I was really astonished at how beautiful the inside of the building was built. It is a modern yet, vintage feel to it! Loved the acts taking place there extremely professional & well trained, these people "KNOW" & LOVE what their doing I must say. Overall great place with a great vibe in a buzzing city, definitely a must!! Therefore I highly recommend The Market Theatre a must see, loved the experience

Always a pleasure to visit the Market theatre. Great plays with absolutely talented actors. There is also a nice coffee shop across to relax after a play

We enjoyed the Blood Knot performance. Well played by both guys!

I love the historical look of the theatre. Such elegance. The seating is very ideal for intimate shows .
