ABOUT MASAKHANE TRAINING CENTRE
Masakhane Training Centre was founded by the late colonel Jacobs in 1996.
The idea behind Masakhane Training Centre was to combat the lack of skills in South-Africa.
In the past the only regulating authority in South-Africa was the SOB (Security Officers Board).
This made it difficult to teach skills because of the growing number of illegal training centers and
also the lack of quality assurance regulated by the SOB. Then the SOB restructured itself by becoming
P.S.I.R.A. (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority). This meant that there will be more
regulations in the security training sector. The problem was still that a security training provider will
be able to use its own learning material. This in turn meant that the working provider has no way of
knowing the quality of training and the ability of the security officer.
Then another regulating authority was established by the name of SASSETA (South African Safety and
Security Educational Training Authority). This body will ensure the minimum standard for a learner
to be found competent is the same in all parts of the country. SASSETA is also promoting the NQF
training method which is nationally recognized. SASSETA is registered by SAQA (South-African Quality
Regulating Authority). This means that all qualifications are of a certain quality and that the learning
material that will be used by training providers will be the same.
