Cannot even get an initial appointment with these people without committing upfront to them handling the entire pregnancy... My wife and I moved back from Cape Town recently, and it's impossible to find a new gynae without just blankly saying "I put all my trust in Dr. Stander without having ever met him"... Most ridiculous rules and clearly not there in the interest of the community, as doctors once were, but rather solely focused on money making... Don't know the guy... he might be great... he might not be... but what a ridiculous policy... thanks for nothing.
I had an appointment with Dr K Stander on 30 January 2023 for my yearly check-up and to discuss a few other issues I had. This was my FIRST visit with him after transferring from gynaecologist at Femina Clinic that I were with for 12 years. Big Mistake... Dr Stander "greeted" me with a rude, disrespectful comment that "all women should be on head medication, and that those that are not, are the dangerous ones" After taking some cryptic notes of my medical background, I shared some of my issues in 'more' detail, but which he rudely interrupted me and insinuated that is was due to my "size" that I had an infection with my hysterectomy. We had a discussion about BMI - when I disagreed, he claimed I was one of the "clever ones" and that he does not think he would be able to help me this only after 5 min of consultation and that he suggest I go and see a "sangoma", pay them alot of money to provide me with medication and help I need. I'm absolutely shocked and appalled with his bedside manner - disgraceful, unprofessional and totally disrespectful.
I was not allowed to bring my partner with me in the room ! My husband should be able to join me if I want him there! Stander is a very straight forward man and does not like to sympathize with his patients. I find it difficult to word how I feel because of his responses.
I love his bedside manner and the fact that he gives straight forward answers to my questions with a twist of humour. I was pregnant with twins, one twin sadly passed away while in eutro. He acted swiftly and compassionately immediately putting me on steroids, saving and delivering the surviving twin at 29 weeks. My second pregnancy I had fibroids and bleeding, he put me on meds and got me through the pregnancy and delivered a perfect healthy baby. I never once had to doubt or worry about him making the best decision for me.
I will recommend this docter any day. He has a great sense of humor. Great bed side manners. Gets straight to the point. And answers all questions so a person can understand. Best gynecologist.
The best, most efficient Gynecologist I Have ever met. He delivered my 2 babies , always kept things simple and straight forward . When I had a miscarriage Third pregnancy he handled everything very professionally, I'm pregnant again 8 weeks and will always prefer Dr.Stander. He truly is an unsung Hero. Great sense of humor , fantastic bed-side manner, makes the couple feel comfortable. I will recommend Dr. Stander to everyone I know.
Dr Stander's bedside manner leaves much to be desired. I switched to him after being with Terblanche for many years and what a mistake. He implied pain I experienced after a surgery was "in my head" after I explained my experience...well that was the last he heard from me and my wallet. I don't mind straight forward doctors since I'm a straight shooter myself but try not to insult your patients when they explain their genuine experiences to you, especially in this profession.
What a great experience my pregnancy was all because Dr Stander was the best. Even through this pandemic, my experience was fantastic. I would recommend Dr Stander to anyone who is looking for a doc to share their pregnancy journey with!
I would never recommend this dr to anyone. He operated my sister yesterday, did not go after the operation to tell her what he did. That was in the afternoon on Thursday. Friday he also didn't go to check on my sister in the wards and when he was called he said he is sorry he forgot about her!! Which caring dr forgets about his patient! Now he says my sister must come for check up after 2 weeks and only then he will explain how the OP went and do pap smear!! Really.
We were referred to him by our GP. My wife was experiencing strange and painful symptoms during the early stages of her pregnancy first pregnancy. From the onset, he was rude and obnoxious. He dismissed my wife's issues and made a whole horrible joke out of it and told her 'this is what happens when you want to get pregnant'. This was also our very first scan, which was ruined as a result. We went to another gyneacologist, who diagnosed my wife with a bladder infection and she was admitted for treatment. Will never go to this doctor again and will never recommend anyone to his practise.
