If i could give no stars, i would. Absolutely appalling! Tried for 4 days to get approval for hospital procedure. First day following up i had the rudest lady helping me and told me that i need to wait 5 days. My surgery was in two days time. Then i needed approval for a device that Dr will be using during surgery. I was told that i needed the quote and motivational letter to get this approved. I supplied both and had to mail it to them 3 times. Eventually after being on hold a day before my surgery i was told that it is not covered. I was told that it can be allocated to my savings. I tried to get the device from the supplier only to be told that i need authorization from Medshield. I have been going around in circles. Looking for a new medical aid.
Sadly I would agree with most of the reviews on the form. Absolutely worth a 0 Star review. The support staff is very rude and speaking to a manager seems impossible. We have been struggling for months to get approved for a benefit that is clearly stated in our medical aid plan. I will encourage all my friends and family to stay far away from this company. They do not care at all and after being sent from corner to corner to gather the information, we were kindly notified to gather more information in order to get an approval. WHAT A WASTE OF OUR TIME, Medshield does not care about their clients time.
Oh my word. it looks like this delayed authorisation is a thing with this company considering all the reviews I have read. We too, are now in the 2nd week of waiting for authorisation for post operative nursing care, which is covered under their plan. Even escalated, we have again been told it will take a further 1 to 3 days. Shame on this company, they advertise large , big promises. Dubious delivery!! Does your senior management ever check these ratings? Its a shame if they do and still so little been done to fix what seems to be a common complaint.
URGENT!!!! My mother is needing a total knee replacement and cannot walk. Two doctors have written a letter of motivation and they have both been declined by Medshield WITHOUT any reason. We have tried to get in contact with Medshield but have not gotten any answers or solutions as to how to get authorisation for this urgent operation. Both email and call centres are useless. They have been with Medshield for over 30-40 years and have had previous operations done without any issues. Is it possible to meet with a broker IN PERSON to sort out this urgent matter? It has been months without any solutions.
No medical aid is perfect but Medshield has always been helpful in my individual experience. The staff I have dealt with have been an average of someone who is great and knows what they are doing and the odd one that should be trained more As with any company good apples & bad apples But the overall experience so far has been far more positive and much better than my previous medical aid.
I've been waiting almost 7 months to get approval on my joint replacement, after loads of emails, letters and unsuccessful phone calls I eventually received an authorization number but still awaiting a basic confirmation of the amount that will be covered for the prostheses....the manufacturer requires confirmation of the amount etc.before they can start to make it.. just a basic letter which seem to be impossible for Medshield to provide....so again my procedure and life is on hold...why do we pay for a service that's treating us like state patients, this is unacceptable say the least.
I am a member and currently not happy with their service. I had to do an urgent surgery in September 2022, we have tried to call their Call Centre to confirm if medical aid will cover the procedure, the switchboard line was not working on that day. I selected other options, I was told that "i am not dealing with that", you must speak to our consultant. I end up paying the bill from my own pocket, I was charged more and when I claimed back medical aid paid less and they didn't pay the difference, which was more than R3000, when I called to enquire about it, I was told that I was supposed to call prior to make arrangements. I am still not happy with this, I have been trying to call because I wanted to escalate this matter to the manager but I did not get help.
Useless!!! Do not join them!!! My wife got declined for a C section? How is that even possible. They have declined other things as well. DO NOT JOIN THEM!!!
The service at Medshield is TERRIBLE . I recently joined the scheme and my contract was due to start on 2022/07/01. As I was in the process of canceling my plan with Discover, my employer informed me I can not proceed as all employees have to remain with Discovery. I informed Medshield, but they are refusing to accept this and require 1 months notice even though the contract with them has not even started. They are persistent in running a debit order on my account, while I'm still on Discovery, which by the way is ILLEGAL. So now for the month of July, I'm on 2 medical aids which I'm both paying for. PATHETIC scheme, it's a good thing my employer disapproved. I can only imagine the troubles I was going to face as a member.
They literally took 3 years to process a claim - just to give you an idea of how ridiculous this scheme is. Save yourself and the lives of your loved one, look for another provider....
