One of the most amazing "no thrill" experiences Ive had in my life. Moholoholo Rehabilitation does what the name states, it rehabilitates and saves animals from human cruelty and occasional natural mishap. They are not shy in educating you about, but for now let me review the experience. For a very modest and affordable rate, you will get in-between an hour or two worth of animal sights up close, in detail, yet safe. The tour guides do a brilliant job explaining the backstory/s of the animal in question, and then of the species itself too, as well as there state of endangerment if applicable, which sadly most of the animals there are . You will spend a decent amount of time at each enclosure, and they allow photos and questions, and respond warmly to them. You get to go into some of the enclosures where there is little to no serious threat, provided that you behave and not try to pet any of the animals. The site itself is clean, green and very relaxing, and even some of the animals there by their own accord are cute and special, I.E chickens, some wild raptors/birds of prey, rabbits etc. The onsite museum is a very emotional sight as it shows many animals and their deaths by human hands blood and traps visible, but as said its an absolute must for them to show us how tough and important there toles are in saving and protecting these animals. They need to always do this and I absolutely applaud them for it, because its an eye opener and made me think so deeply about animals and our impact on them. The food and drink kiosk for food can have an improved variety, but its by no means terrible. They also have another store with shirts and other items. P.S not all animals are equally spent time on, so if you are more interested on seeing or speaking about Cheetahs, or The honey badgers, just for example, make sure to ask the guide upfront, or else the lions, or birds might get 10 minutes each, and some others only 3 minutes or so. An absolute joy to have attended and I will return every chance I get, and would love to donate when I am able to one day.
This place is not what you might expect. You come in to see lions and cheetahs and you will see them, yes, BUT first you will learn why they are in captivity at first place. Raw unfiltered education about consequences of pouching and generally human impact on wildlife. Not for weaker individuals but on the other hand you need to hear and see to understand what is going on and that only we, humans, can change it! I highly recommend eventhough I was really sad for the rest of the day.
The founder Mr Brian Jones have kept the admission rates very reasonable to share some sad and happy stories of these beautiful animals & birds. The up close encounters will have a lasting impression and kids education ranks high on the establishment mission. The money goes for a great cause and worth every cent, myself returning numerous times. Also check out some fantastic accommodation offer by Moholoholo in close vacinity.
Wonderful job this centre is doing to rehabilitate the injured wild animals and educate the public. Absolutely breathtaking seeing some of these animals so close!
A real eye opener to what we as humans are doing. The people here are doing really great things to rehabilitate those that have been harmed. You really will learn alot on the tour. Keep it up guys.
I came to South Africa with the Lush Safari Reaseheath uni group, we only had a small tour with Armand but it was very very informative and his passion for helping these animals and conservation has really inspired me, and I hope to get the opportunity to volunteer one day as i most definitely would love to come back to volunteer as it is amazing the work you all do and I'd love to get involved and be with people that share my passion for saving animals and conservation.
What an experience! We didn't have time to take the tour which is about 2 hours long, so just ended up walking through the museum, which is truly only of it's kind! Extremely well done, but it focusses on the stories of animals that have had to be rescued due to "abuse" from humans, so some of the stories are quite horrific, but it's a good eye-opener. One of the staff said they shock you with the museum and then lift your spirits with the tour of the animals being rehabilitated, so I would recommend making time to take the tour as well.
Such an amazing experience. Extremely sad to hear such horrible stories of how the animals ended up there but all the animals are happy and healthy. Definitely didn't expect to go into the enclosures with the birds of prey. Our tour guide was excellent with many jokes up his sleeve.
Very impressive. Great for learning about the effects of humans on the wildlife, and amazing opportunities to see some incredible animals up close
Cant speak good enough about this place!!! They are so informative, all the staff are friendly and care deeply for the animals. I visit them yearly and never get bored What Brian Jones created here is legendary!
