About a year and a half ago we opened our boutique butchery in Stellenbosch. We were given this opportunity by our brother Fritz Schoon, renowned artisanal baker who was expanding his shop into an organic one stop market: Schoon de Companje (http://www.decompanje.co.za). And what is a market without meat? But not just any meat. Locally sourced, natural meat. We were focused on all aspects of the production of the meat that we bought. Farmers who understand the impact of animal welfare on meat quality. Stress-free rearing. Only the best meat would do for us and our clients.
After a couple of months we decided to start weekly braai nights, using only the best ingredients, of which our meat, of course was the main feature. The response from the public far exceeded our expectations and we realized once again how much South Africans appreciate a good braai with exceptional meat! So we decided to spread the love and move to Jhb, where we’re planning on using my sister Dany’s beautiful Down to Earth (http://downtoearth.travel)food truck.
After you’ve tasted our succulent smoked chicken, you’ll understand that a move without our smoker, was a pointless one. So along with our smoked chicken, we make our own boerewors and sausages that we grill next to the most delicious burgers. A tried and tested recipe created by our Greek mother Jenny Schoon. So you see, feeding people good food is in our blood!
We look forward to feeding Joburgers a selection of delicious soul food straight from our beautiful food truck. You can expect a mouthwatering selection, ranging from slow smoked pulled brisket, hot smoked chicken, grilled sausages, boerewors and burgers all served with amazing home-baked bread and healthy fresh salads or veg.
