Great place to catch up with mates! The venue has plenty of seating but if you are planning to have dinner, book ahead. There beer garden has a beautifully lit tree in the centre, with plenty of seating and heaters. No table service. Food was quick, beers flowing and overall great atmosphere. Beef cheeks and the fried chicken burger was delicious!
Loved everything about this place apart from the food lol! Ordered medium rare steak and it was really really cooked and chewy. However the staff are very professional and friendly. The atmosphere is pretty nice too. Overall not bad for a casual dinner with low expectations
I rate this place a three out of five for the following reasons; Service; To order food, you need to go into the Oaks public bar and go to the checkout/check in counter to order your food. Service is cordial and friendly, however, the person who served me today did not understand 'salad' and when I asked about salads, the checkout chick gave me bland description of the salads - therefore, I did not order the salad, as it sounded un-appetizing. The order came in good time, no long wait - the place was medium busy. When I looked at a salad another woman was having - I thought, that is not what was described to me - therefore, I would suggest all staff get fully indoctrinated into the menu. All sauces, cutlery, salt, pepper, napkins are next to the check out person and they have a good selection of sauces etc. and ample hand-sanitizer everywhere. Drinks are available - again its a place where you order your drink, and you take it to your table unlike some upmarket pubs who often bring you your drink to your table once you have ordered. Food; Today we ordered the crispy chicken burger with fries and small salad and aioli and a steak sandwich with fries, small salad. Both meals were tasty, my burger bun was soft, the burger was 'crispy' as per the description and the apple slices/slaw was okay - I would not order this again because the slaw was mediocre and a tad dry - it needed more dressing. I solved it by dousing the burger with chilli sauce. The steak sandwich was cooked well, but my friend said the steak was a bit 'tough', verging on chewy. We did not sample the drinks menu - but it looked as though it had the usual beer, spirits, bubbles etc. Plenty of water available which is nicely chilled. Cleanliness; We out next to the famous Oak tree, and the table was clean. On this occasion, I did not use the bathroom - no comment on this aspect. Value for money; Overall, good value for money considering this is the Neutral Bay area. I paid $54.50 for the crispy chicken burger and the steak sandwich. Parking; unsure where the parking lots is - I arrived via hire car. X-factor; Always great to visit this pub, to sit by the famous 'oak tree' hence the name 'The Oaks' - If it wasn't for the tree, I wouldn't necessarily come here, however, It brings back fond memories of my long patronage of this pub. Great setting with plenty of space for large groups, but the food is not the main event here. Went for a large work function and understandable that food was average with the snacks being the better option. Mains were expensive and bland, with the fishes being the better of the mains. Pizza looked great however didn't taste better than frozen supermarket pizza as the prawns were definitely of the frozen kind which lacked flavour. All in all, we liked the location with the beautiful outdoor setting and Oak tree, and service was decent relative to the amount of patrons.
The Oaks is a favourite for a classic pub lunch. The food is always fresh and well cooked. The staff are always friendly both at the bar and dining area. Perhaps a few more varieties of zero alcohol wine would be appreciated. The wine that was available was very pleasant. A great venue both with inside and outside dining.Food: 5/5
Honestly it was disappointing. As a regular visitor in the late 90s, coming back was never going to how I remember it. First the food parts. There have been several renovations since I was last there and they look great. It was quiet when I was there Monday night, public holiday but still a decent atmosphere. The food was good, without being great, typical pub food you might say, a little overpriced but fine. However, where the experience was a let down was the service. Staff were friendly enough, I got the new guy out of his depth but without support, but just some of the processes were downright annoying. A round of drinks was partially fulfilled at purchase, the rest on a buzzer that took so long, the first batch were ready for another remember, it wasn't busy. I can look past the fact that some drinks were not available, but to wait until we queried where the missing drink was is unforgivable. Finally, to have to collect food from another bar, a couple of tricky doors away was not the greatest experience, especially for the price paid. As a guest from out of town said, "I can't believe they don't deliver to the table!". I may be older with different requirements and expectations than when I went in my 20s, but somehow The Oaks has lost some of its appeal.
Very nice ambiance, especially at night with the light up tree. The food is a different story though, totally underwhelming and overpriced for the quality you receive. Small portions, cheap ingredients and basically bland flavours. Only thing I’d recommend is the coconut chicken salad but even that is not worth $28.
We had burgers, poke bowl and mussels. They were ok, poke bowl is a bit mexican on one side of the bowl, but Japanese on the other, was not what I expected. Rice was very sticky. Mussels is juicy and buttery. Szchuan pepper squid is meaty and good flavour, but couldnt taste the szchuan pepper corn, more salt and pepper. Quite a long wait for food for saturday lunch time, food itself is ok but a bit pricey considering the average quality.
Amazing place a must if your in Sydney! The atmosphere is awesome with friendly and lively bar staff, great access to everything making it a truely modern Aussie pub. The main feature was the service especially Emma who made the experience absolutely amazing some of the funniest and best small talk I’ve ever heard! It gets a 13/7 not double the expectation as I was hoping to buy a T shirt they displayed but couldn’t because they don’t stock them, kinda disappointing but alright.
Awesome atmosphere for a very nice meal and catching up with friends. Plenty of different areas for dining inside and outside, with lots of tables available. The kitchen pumped the food out surprisingly quickly considering how many people were there too which was excellent. I would definitely go back again!
