My cousin died in his house, not sure how long he was dead. The police was called and informed the family that they would not remove the body and that the family, who lives in Gauteng must make sure the body is removed. He was not identified or seen by a doctor to declare him dead! The police officer said he looked at the body and decided he died of his illness and the state is not responsible for the removal of the body, eventhough the family requested the body to be taken to the state mortuary to give everyone time to make alternative arrangements. We were told that the house will be locked and the police van will leave the premises, leaving the body inside! I am disgusted to say the least! We were informed that this is not the correct prosedure and we will be seeking legal assistance.
