QOLF is an indoor/outdoor lawn game that is a cross between golf and croquet. QOLF is fun and challenging for all ages and a great alternative to traditional lawn games and indoor family games, as it provides a test of accuracy, touch and skill.
Qolf was invented by three South African school boys looking for a way to improve their pitching and chipping skills in their own back yard.
It has created tremendous interest worldwide, and is seen as the perfect introduction to golf in a relaxed fun environment. The beauty of Qolf is that it can be set out and played on any grassed surface. Qolf is available in 3 formats, Qolf Zone, Qolf 3 Frame and 9 Frame Off Course Golf. Qolf is a game in its own right. Incorporating the skills and values base of golf into a short course, fast and fun game, Qolf is a stand alone sport but is also an excellent introduction to the classic game of golf.
The game was born when three youngsters, Brandon Busuttil, Kelvin Jackson and Paulo Araujo began some pitching practise on the banks of the Vaal River. Dissatisfied with merely using their pitching wedges to practise stroke play, the boys began to devise a game whereby there were points to be earned by pitching a golf ball through a series of arches. The idea evolved from there into Qolf.
Launched in August 2004, Qolf uses conventional golf clubs (a pitching or sand wedge or nine iron) to pitch a ball around a course. A customised lightweight ball is used for the game. The course utilises standing frames with a bottom arch and a target hole known as the “Qolf” placed higher on the frame. The object is to pitch the ball through the arch for points, or through the hole, or the “Qolf” for bonus points. Each frame has a par and bonus value and the scoring is not dissimilar to a normal game of golf. This adds a tactical dimension to the game which is unique, making the game about skill, accuracy and good planning.
These factors make Qolf the first genuine, off-course golf game. While it is a relative of Golf, it has its own rules, courses and kit, distinguishing it clearly from other entirely golf based games and leisure activities.
