Visited on a frosty and foggy day, still amazed at this beautiful place. Plenty of parking on site. It is an English Heritage site so free entry for members. Lovely little cafe with toilets and gift shop on site. The gardens are stunning with lots of little hidden gems and pathways. The house was open on our visit, although only a few rooms are available for viewing they are still beautiful. There is a nearby wood which can be explored too. Will definitely return in the warmer weather for full exploration of the grounds and to seethe gardens in full bloom. This place is worth a visit, would allow a full day to be able to see everything.
Spent a lovely few hours wandering around this rather stately stately home. You can see the crazy decorations inside the house and then wander around the huge gardens. In the gardens you can find many interesting and beautiful buildings such as an orangery. Has a nice shop and cafe there too.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The main subject is the extensive park, with lovely trees, formal and walled gardens, however the vacant house is impressive in size and architecture. Don't miss the Dairy Sculpture Gallery and Orangery. If you don't have children I would avoid visiting during school holidays as it is very popular with families. Car park, visitor centre, cafe, shop, toilets.
The gardens are massive and very well maintained. Though you can't find a rubbish bin for love nor money. They sell you a coffee but you have to carry an empty cup with you all around the grounds. Inside is also impressive but there is zero furniture, which makes it a bit of a barren void. Worth a visit thoughVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A lovely place to walk the dog and take in the sites. Free to get in if you’re a member of the English heritage. Cafe is not bad and even had gluten free sandwiches for sale. A nice outdoor area to eat and a play area for children. The grounds and buildings are beautiful.
A gorgeous place to spend half day walking along the gardens, different views in all four seasons. The herbaceous boarder and the 200+ years wisteria are stunning. The whole park is very well maintained, and perfect for families.
A pleasant day out. Lovely grounds, some interesting buildings with a sense of bygone splendour. The sculptures were disappointing none were of particular note, the trees were far more interesting. A great place to walk around on a sunny summers day. Worth a visit for the reasonable entrance feeVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We chose this property on the way back from our trip to the east of England. It is halfway and a great place to stretch our legs. The house was only open downstairs and there was no furniture but it gave us a flavour of what the place may have looked like in its heyday. The gardens were why we chose it and they certainly didn't disappoint! The orangery, the long water, and the temple were delightful
Interesting house with huge grounds from landscaped gardens to woodland. Large play area for kids although limited shade in the play area. Plenty of options for long walks through the gardens and around the different ponds / lakes. The archer pavilion is particularly interesting with its tiny staircases!Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A Beautiful place. Huge garden that you can enjoy walking with your dog. Do not miss so many beautiful side parks and corners with little status and memorials around. Specifically there is a dog cemetery There is a nice cafe to get food and drinks in the entrance and a bookshop. Get cash with you for the bookshop. Otherwise you need to go back and pay for the books at the entrance. The parking is free and the staff and guides and very helpful.
