Schivas Rock

It's dirty, and I almost never have a good time when I get dragged here. The décor is truly hideous, with a large brown fibreglass or maybe just papier-mâché rock feature behind the bar. The beer is cheap, however, and the place is open late. There are also pool tables, and the occasional worthwhile band performance.

Oh, but this is an interesting one. Somehow, no matter what scandals hit, no matter who dies, no matter what outrage erupts at its existence, it endures. Why? No idea. Schivas - not to be associated under any circumstances with the excellent whiskey with a similar name - is always dirty and the floor is always sticky. It’s had it's fair share of scandals. Two stars is pretty generous, but there’s a certain mystique to it that keeps people going back. Not me though, mind you - I went there only once, and it was to meet a porn producer for a drink. Long story. I know that Schivas has been ragged online a lot for being the worst venue in Pretoria and possibly the province, and the assessment is probably true. I’m not here to defend it. All I’m going to say is that one must see rock bottom to understand everything above it - or at least appreciate it a little better. Things are strange and terrifying out there, and very few things are more strange and terrifying than Schivas. So put on your snake skin boots, leave your underwear at home and visit the hole that perpetually smells of puke and cheap cigarettes. Just so you know what it’s like.

Drunk nest for the most diverse group of people ranging from underage to over 80's reading a book at the bar. Open till 3 in the morning. Not for a first date

If you're looking for dark, dingy bar to hide out in, Schivas is the perfect dive to call home. The beer is cheap, there are a couple of pool tables and pokies, and the barflies are some of Pretoria's most seasoned veterans.

Dodgy pub but you always end up at Schivas. They need to do something about security. I know of 3 cellphones that has been stolen there.

Nothing special about the place apart from late night parties. They have beer and pool tables, that is great!

Service is very very slow. Prices have gone up. They only accept cash,but it's the only place that's open after 2am in Pretoria

Dingy, dark, bad sound setup, but cheap alcohol. The owner has recently been causing trouble with patrons. Try to avoid

A bit pricey for this kind of place, great place if you want to go out until 4 am

The place to be after the after party. Diverse and enjoyable. Just wish it was not a cash bar.
