We had a wonderful time with Julia and Penny from Spekboom tours. We did the 3 day falls to falls adventure in the Karkloof area. Julia organised lovely accommodation at Thistledown Country House, a fun adventure at Karkloof canopy tours, and three great walks with Julia and Penny which were informative, and revealed marvelous places we didn't know existed. We learned a lot and had such fun. We definitely recommend it!
This adventure was epic.....3 days in the MistBelt Forest, Karkloof, Dargle Valley and Umgeni Valley in the KZN Midlands. Julia is so knowledgeable about the area, the fauna and floral and the ecosystem of the area. A passionate advocate for the Kzn Midlands area and all it has to offer. She's an incredible tour guide and hostess....think gourmet picnic on top of Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall, gourmet lunch overlooking the Umgeni Valley. Our group of 10, rather loud, ladies has just returned from a 3 day slack packing trip with Julia and her Spekboom team. We had an absolute blast. Julia is a very considerate guide with a wealth of knowledge on the natural environment in the area. The food was plentiful, fresh, healthy and extremely tasty. We're already talking loudly as always about signing up for another Spekboom hike!
What a well organized walking tour! Julia is such a knowledgeable, capable and friendly guide. Her knowledge of the area is amazing and we so appreciated that she customized the walks to be suitable after all the rains in the area. Thistledown Country House was very welcoming and comfortable and the food was quite amazing! Food on the walks was also delicious - well done Julia! I am really going to try those Energy Bars! I learnt and experienced so much that I would never have seen without Julia as a guide!
What a magical time my friends and I had with Spekboom Tours and dear Julia on the Karkloof Falls-2-Falls slackpacking tour. The scenery was spectacular! Forests; waterfalls; moss covered stepping stones; icy, clear water in the fast flowing rivers; zip lining and many other wonderful things to see and experience. Julia's knowledge of the biodiversity and history of the area made it all the more special. At times I felt like a hobbit or two would pop out in the forests to inspect us. The accommodation was super comfortable. The food extremely delicious. The area was so much more beautiful than I imagined. I am so chuffed that I did this hike. Thank you Julia and Spekboom for all your skills and organisation. Worth every cent!
