St Francis Hospice was established in 1984 by a group of people with a shared dedication to providing a Hospice service in Port Elizabeth.
Hospice is both a program and a philosophy of care that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with a life threatening illness. Hospice provides a program of palliative care which encompasses the holistic care of patients whose disease is no longer responsive to curative treatment.
"St Francis Hospice is a non-profit organization which currently provides comprehensive home-based palliative care to ±240 patients per month in the Nelson Mandela Metro and surrounds, serving people who are in the final stages of an illness such as Cancer, AIDs, TB or Motor Neurone disease and giving support to their families.
