Spent 3 nights at the end of April 2023. Great hotel location due to its proximity to the Welcome Centre. Breakfast is adequate. Pool area is very nice. The outdoor cinema at Valley of the Waves on the 28th was an awesome experience even though it could have been planned better by the event organizers considering it was for all hotel guests. Enjoyed our stay.
We had a beautiful family holiday there & we weren't disappointed. The breakfasts were amazing, so much variety of food. The staff were always very friendly & helpful. We were even so lucky to meet Gary Player at the Club house. It was awesome Rooms: 4/5
We have just got back from a 7 night stay at the Cascades and it is right in the centre of everything you need In Sun City. Breakfast was lovely- not everything was to our taste I think You get this at every hotel but we never went hungry. Rooms were spacious and very clean- the only slight downside to the rooms was that we had a 14 year old and a 10 year old who said the pull out bed was hard and un comfy - when we travel again I would take a blow up bed for them! Would not put me off going back whatsoever. Staff - the staff were all so friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble! Nothing negative to add at all!! We loved everything about it
Very old hotel but rooms were serviced twice a day and we had everything we needed. Breakfast spread is sufficient, but room carpets were very stained and definitely need to be replaced.Rooms: 3/5
The hotel is clearly nowhere near 5 star standards as it once was. Staff at the entrance didn’t even offer to carry our luggage on both checkin and checkout. The rooms have been updated to an extent but bathrooms are still in need of an upgrade. Fittings are old and dated. Everything else was fine in the room and it did make for a comfortable stay. House keeping is very rowdy on the phone and I needed to call twice after 45 minutes to ask for things. The pool and jungle area is well looked after and it makes for a memorable and relaxing stay. Breakfast is quite well spread but it’s disappointing that the glasses for water and juice are ridiculously small, the thought of standing up from your table to go and fetch another tiny glass of drinks does put one off. Otherwise a great experience and suitability for everyone. We did enjoy our stay but it’s the small touches above that were missing and would have made it memorable. Please note: A lot needs to improve, especially the behaviour of staff. A shaving kit for a male is R30! Probably one of the few hotels regardless of star ratings that charges for a small request. Would rather stay in the Soho or Cabanas
We have a wonderful weekend at Cascades. Beautiful atmosphere. Surroundings us full of green & nature. We love the luxury room, big pool & the nice restaurant. We are convenient to travel in the city. Great service and friendly. Thanks
I enjoyed my stay at Cascades. Breakfast was really good. The piano playing was the highlight of our stayI Amenities are clean, all staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable.Rooms: 4/5
The review is based only on the room we booked as all the other facilities were up to standard. We booked the family room and had a very bad first experience. When we got to our room, the sleeper couch which our kids were meant to sleep on was just a normal couch. It was reported to reception, we were assured that it was a sleeper couch and they would send someone up to open it up for us. It took around half an hour for someone to come check only to find out that it was not a sleeper couch,as we had stated in the first place. They then went to source a sleeper couch which took another 15 minutes. Eventually they arrive with the couch, which was not in a good condition with no bedding. When they eventually arrived with the bedding it was just 2 flat sheets with a blanket in the middle. The next evening, as we were asleep we heard some noises coming from the bathroom. When we checked, the toilet was overflowing. The maintenance guy came up and gave some explanation of a blocked pipe however the toilet was flushing fine but there was soapy water coming out the toilet. Housekeeping came in and laid towels on the bathroom floor and that was it. Their explanation was if they are still washing the linen the water might overflow again. We were then called an hour later saying they had sourced a room for us. We were asleep by then. This was around 11pm and we decided to just stick it out until the morning as we were checking out the next day and we were not going to wake our kids at that time of the night and be moving to another room. This is not what we expected from a 5 star establishment, extremely disappointed.
The Cascades rooms are in serious need of a revamp. It is a bit dated. Your room service needs some serious attention as well as your front desk. After 8pm both refuse to answer phones and this would be the third time I have brought it up. Other than that, it is perfectly located between the entertainment centre and everything else. It's been two years guys, same thing for breakfast all the time. Think of your frequent guests. Change it up a bit.
This low rating is based on the accommodation. Our overall stay was good but the following concerns I feel are worth mentioning as it’s not the standard I’d expect from a 5 Star Hotel. We had 3 rooms, 101, 105 and 106. On the first night, there was a HUGE cockroach in room 101, which caused a lack of sleep to those occupying it because of the uneasiness. The next morning, there was another huge cockroach in the passage. I unfortunately could not eat my breakfast, disgusted by the sight of the cockroach. I reported it at Reception - there was no empathy or apology- just was advised that they will send someone to have a look and fumigate the rooms. In room 106, which was our room, the shower had standing water the first morning. In the evening when I washed my hair, there was more standing water but this time it flooded the bathroom, making it slippery and unsafe. We used the pool towels and called maintenance and housekeeping. They explained the problem was the shower head and replaced it with one from an unoccupied room. This then affected the pressure of the water, making it very slow. However, when they did this, something happened to the toilet which kept dripping all night…affecting my sleep. The pool area was lovely and clean. The pizzas and cocktails were good. The service however was extremely slow, same as our previous stay. The breakfast spread was good, I didn’t enjoy the pork sausages so just didn’t have them the next morning. The glasses for water and juices are ridiculously small, causing many walks back and forth to get more. After standing in the line for a long time, to get an omelette, I was told that it’s a “vegetarian” line and I can’t add ham. I didn’t notice any signs that could have directed me otherwise. The staff generally look tired/unhappy/unenthusiastic. Don’t know if they’re not paid well or what the issue may be - just didn’t experience warm, friendly and welcoming service. I almost forgot to mention that when I called central reservations to make the booking, after almost 11 minutes, I hung up as there was no answer. This was unfortunately not the first time I tried calling them and they didn’t answer. WiFi was practically nonexistent the entire stay. Could not even send a WhatsApp on the WiFi. We love Sun City and will definitely be back. I’ve been going there since I was a child. It’s sad to see that the hotel is poorly managed/maintained. We also had issues during our last stay and the fact that some of the same issues still remain, is concerning that feedback is not taken seriously or not followed through via the correct channels. I trust my review will be received in good faith and that the necessary changes will be executed as we will be back and look forward to a more positive experience.
