A home-from home establishment of self-catering cottages
The Handbuilt House consists of two self-catering thatched cottages set in an idyllic urban forest. These unique owner-built customised cottages incorporate wood and other recycled artefacts from the pioneer mining days of early Johannesburg. Like the house itself, almost all furniture and furnishings are handmade.
Each fully furnished and equipped cottage is double storey and open plan. They consist of a spacious lounge and kitchen/dining area downstairs and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom upstairs. The cottages look out out over the 2000m2 organic and indigenous garden. Wake up to birdsong - over 60 species have been identified on the property.- or be lulled to sleep by the gentle croak of frogs in our wetland. Enjoy sun-downers in the garden or at the pool. Sleep soundly insulated by traditional thatch in this urban bush-lodge. This is a home-from home in which to relax and enjoy nature albeit just a few kilometres from centres such as Sandton and Randburg, a bus ride from Johannesburg.and 20 minutes by car or Uber from Lanseria Airport or from Sandton Gautrain station. DSTV and Internet available.
Should our cottages be occupied when you wish to book, one single one double and one family room in the main house are also available.
Light breakfast is optional.
