Tsogang Water and Sanitation was registered as a non-profit company under section 21 of the South-African Companies act on 7 July 1995.
Tsogang was established initially in February 1994 as Tsogang Rural Development agency CC, a closed corporation. The nature of its work and the fact that it relies to a certain extent on donor funding meant that a section 21 company was a more appropriate structure for the organisation. The name was changed to Tsogang Water & Sanitation and the company was registered as a non-profit company under section 21 of the South-African Companies act on 7 July 1995.
