The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) is one of the youngest universities in South Africa. UMP is a comprehensive higher education institution offering a broad range of qualifications; from Higher Certificates to Doctoral Degrees.
UMP was established in 2013. The university has two campuses with Mbimbela Campus – formally the Lowveld College of Agriculture as the main campus, the Siyabuswa Campus – formally the Siyabuswa Education Campus, as well as two sites of delivery in Marapyne and the Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT).
As one of the first public universities to be established in South Africa since 1994, UMP stands as a symbol of the ambitions of the new South African society.
In a region thirsty for learning, UMP aspires to assume a leadership role in providing the province and the country with academic avenues for advancement. With unique programmes designed to match the features and character of the province, the university’s goal is to attract students and academics from across the country and continent, offering specialized niche areas of study that will provide an academic environment of the highest standard, inspiring both students and staff, cementing UMP’s place among the country’s institutions of higher learning.
UMP aspires to create opportunities through innovation. The world is forever seeking solutions to many of its complex challenges. The University of Mpumalanga is constantly seeking out innovative ventures. Innovation as defined is the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service, for which benefits accrue to the innovator, and the greater society.
Through our research and development efforts, indeed throughout their studies at the University of Mpumalanga, our students should have the eye for innovation. At the University of Mpumalanga emphasis is put on encouraging people to do what they love, to strive to make a dent on the universe, to sell dreams not products, to create great experiences, to focus and to master the art of identifying new opportunities.
When we are strong on innovation, opportunities for development will be many. Innovation, entrepreneurship, technology are not just be buzz words at UMP. They are what we live by, and practice as the University of Mpumalanga community. Our innovation endeavours move from inside out, and from outside in. We are committed to the development of an innovative culture and to playing a catalytic role for innovation in industry and for the society at large with a definite bias towards Africa.
