University of Natal

Description

The University of Natal was a university in Natal and later became KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The University of Natal no longer exists as a distinct legal entity, as it was incorporated into the University of KwaZulu-Natal on 1 January 2004. It was founded in 1910 as the Natal University College in Pietermaritzburg and expanded to include a campus in Durban in 1931. In 1947, the university opened a medical school for non-white students in Durban. The Pietermaritzburg campus was known for its agricultural engineering programmes, hence the nickname "the farmers" whilst the Durban campus was known as "the engineers," as it concentrated on other engineering programmes.Brenda Gourley, a qualified chartered accountant, was the second last vice-chancellor of the University of Natal. Her appointment at the university in 1994 was an historical event in South Africa. She was the first woman in South Africa to be appointed as a vice-chancellor of a South African university. The Maritime law programme based at the then Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Natal, which was pioneered under the headship of Professor Hilton Staniland, was one of the first Maritime law programmes of its kind in South Africa. The above institute was well known in South African Maritime circles. A number of South African statutes regulating the South African maritime industry were drafted by Professor Hilton Staniland at the above Institute, including the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act 1 of 1986 and the Wreck and Salvage Act 94 of 1996.

Watching Othello play was amazing!!! The cast was amazing!!! Everything was amazing!!!
Was an absolute pleasure in the past years when,we had highly knowledgeable lectures who could speak English eloquently and express themselves well. Also the lectures back then had a high standard of education and papers were marked fairly..sorry to say but this level of teaching has dropped to a pitiable level and a lot of the lectures have a poor understanding of the answers by students and therefore papers are marked unfairly. I have witnessed this..
You need sort out your system of accepting students, I can't have a child being on pending till to date, indicate if it's unsuccessful or what rather than being pending. A child has 39 points and others have registered already. When we ask a friend says her child was put on bridging because a friend put her child in and registered, when we ask they say the lady now requests to be paid aybo why are u corrupting everything in South Africa
Do not send your children to the University of KwaZulu Natal. UKZN has poor admin and lacks a sense of urgency when addressing student admin issues. It has proven difficult for them to return my credit balance on my fees. They'll ask for documents then only to ask for more documents that prove impossible to get ahold of just so they do not pay back what is due to you. The lack of urgency and almost criminal act of refusing to refund people of credit balances asking for one document to the next just to stall and discourage them is disgusting. They do everything except inspire for greatness. Fraudulent establishment
Howard campus is beautiful. There are lot if trees which add a soothing and cooling "feel" to the space. I felt calm here, which is something I think that students appreciate during those stressful exam seasons. The only thing I didn't like much was how I noticed that the upkeep of the trees isn't that great throughout the campus. Some spaces have low hanging branches and loose branches which could be a hazard. Apart from that I think it's great. Many successful graduates have come out or this place. :
The UKZN Centre for Jazz is fast becoming the only venue for live jazz performances in Durban. World-class performances are held here every Wednesday from 6pm.
It's always a great place for me. Comfortable zone for peace of mind
I was a student there. The security guards make your access in a living hell. You cannot go there to even enroll. The staff are so nasty and unpleasant. From the lecture halls . You cannot go any further. No telephone call is taken. What foes it say to people who want yo study. So sad. The campus is not accessible are the staff helpful.
The campus is a great place to attend. There are fantastic views and some very interesting people. There have been times of disruption and lots of hard work. Many many cherished memories. There are iconic buildings one of which can be seen from most of Durban. It gets busy all the time. In my experience its fairly safe.
Great university, I'm a student here, I would highly recommend this institution for its great security, academic structure, atmosphere and environment
