I recently had an external timber double door fitted, west facing, at my home in Johannesburg. The door was fitted in the beginning of July during RSA's winter and Gauteng's dry period. My order was placed through RD Carpentry and I'm advised that the doors were supplied by Van Acht Doors and Windows The door over a period of two months shrank to the extent that the latch bolt can no longer reach the striker plate and secure the door closed. Van Achts reply when this was address was "Meranti is not indigenous to South Africa, so the timber does react to our climate. Always has and it always will – simple truth of the matter" - Ian Grobbelaar. So my question is this -If Meranti is not a suitable wood for use in Johannesburg's climate why does Van Acht supply doors and windows made of meranti timber? Perhaps their timber supplier could comment on the need to cure wood properly before being used for manufacture. Perhaps there is another reason for the problem occurring? Any ideas because surely this cannot be deemed acceptable.

Mine was not a straightforward install and the team handled the requirements effortlessly. The project was started and finished on schedule and workmanship was of a very high standard. The installation team is an asset to the business. Very thankful for your effort and attention to detail, it has not gone unnoticed.
Our experience with purchasing our double door and single garage doors from Van Acht was very professional. Keagan Stevens was very helpful and quite knowledgeable on the products on offer and provided much needed guidance on our purchase. He kept us appraised every step of the process from quotation at their offices right up to installation. Thank you for your efficiency and quality product- we are very pleased with our purchase!
Edwin as helped us over the years with two large building projects. helped us choose not only good quality doors but provided information about the quality of the wood and what to look for when choosing door handles. He helped us through a process of designing a custom made entrance doors, for our new home main entrance which was extra ordinary wider than standard double doors. The process went smooth from design, confirming measurements, production and installation. Worst Aluminum Supplier!!! We are recently renovating our house and Van Acht supplied all the windows and doors for our outbuilding. We have had the worst service from a company that is so renowned in wooden doors that it’s aluminum division is nothing short of disappointing. We had terrible service from the day they came on site for measurements to supplying incorrect measurements resulting in doors for the same room with different heights and mixing up the measurements of the doors, to doors not closing properly when they came to instal. There is a long laundry list of snags from our architect that still need to be addressed, having given them the opportunity to take back the doors to manufacturing which took another 5 weeks to doors coming back with scratches and broken or sub standard beadings on the doors. The alignment on the panels was problematic for 7-9m sliding doors with plastic fillers that are protruding and not installed flush. This is the worst supplier we have dealt with so far and their workmanship and quality in aluminum is nothing short of appalling!!
I'm lost of words that I could use to express the great level of service I received from tsepo I will definitely buy from him.

Installed this double garage door in Harare and it is the talk of the street. Cant wait to share the photos when the driveway is complete. Quality speaks for itself Thanks Puffy for the great service. He made sure they are packaged nicely for export and they indeed made it safely. Advised how to treat the door to ensure it lasts longer. Will definitely come for more
