I’m primarily a digital artist but I’m branching out to different media and I’ve been to this shop three times. The vibe is always off when I go there, I never feel welcome and I always feel a bit icky when I leave but yesterday an Indian male who I presume is the husband of the owner or a relative gave me a clue as to why I feel that way. He followed me vigilantly…suspiciously…from the minute my son and I walked in to the time I settled the bill and left. He didn’t talk to me, ask me if I was looking for anything in particular, offer help or anything a proprietor might helpfully do; he just silently stalked me as I browsed from the acrylics at the front to the individual brushes at the back like I was a known kleptomaniac about pinch something. I wanted to explore deeper into the shop and see what else I could be interested in but I was scared i would be openly accused and be embarrassed further. I could have bought all my materials online but I drove out of my way to support a local shop and this is the treatment I get. Anyway, the shop has an average selection, much less than a shop which specialises in art supplies would but there’s hardware and things there too and I think that could be very useful if you work with alternative materials. Quality paints are available -but it’s very much a shop with the student or hobbyist in mind. They clearly have a good understanding of the beginner to enthusiast artist and what they could need to bring out their creativity.
It’s a small store but it’s densely stocked and is my go-to for most of my hardware needs. Friendly staff, friendly prices.
Hidden gem of a shop, had what we needed. Very nicely received and helpful staff. Definitely needs to be noticed more, has a wide range of art, crafts and electrical plus lots of tools.
Great Hardware shop, small..but it's got most things..Helpful staff too
I've been using this shop for decades. It has an exceptionally well-curated stock and helpful and well informed staff, and I've often managed to find things that I hadn't found in much larger hardware stores. Or gone in with a problem and left with a clear explanation of how to deal with it, using something that they of course had in stock. They are also impressively reliable at stocking what you might need for unexpected school science and art/craft projects. A neighbourhood treasure.
Humm nice place but too much traffic you will gate the parking if you lucky
While the staff there are warm and extremely helpful the owner is rather unfriendly and obnoxious. She did not greet when I entered the premises nor said thank you when she cashed for my purchases. Her demeanor was cold and aloof...only thing that somewhat salvaged the experience was a member of staff who was really pleasant and knowledgeable. She is the only reason I spent R1200 in the store at all. Won't ever be going be back. Have changed my art supplier and could not be happier.
Wide range of diy bits, well catered to the arts and crafts in the area, it has been a huge aid to me knowing they have the basics as well as craft specialty items. It would be perfect if there were a larger range of power tools to accommodate more as a hardware store
A wonderland of crafts, DIY hardware and art supplies, my favourite in Durban.
I have been a customer at the Glenwood Village Hardware store for years for material ranging from my home, crafting and school projects. You will find all your DIY material, no matter how big or small, at this heavenly store. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and very educated on the various products that they stock for absolutely any project . You definitely owe it to yourself to pay them a visit for your next DIY project and experience a refreshing change to shopping at a hardware store where people have no idea what they are doing, or what you are doing for that matter. The majority female staff here are at the top of their game. Keep it up guys.
