SSB was established in 1993 as a non-profit, independent high school. SSB's mission is to meet the needs of the community it serves by providing excellent, affordable education to economically disadvantaged black students. In 2013 SSB gained a primary school through a merger with Vuleka School (www.vulekaschool.co.za)
