Vuli Valley Senior Secondary School was one of the many built in 1982 by the South African regime as part of development campaign for homelands, and was named after a businessman Mr Vulindlela Mbotoli who solicited funds from overseas in order to build houses. The suburb was named after him by the president of Transkei homeland Mr Kaiser Daliwonga Matanzima.
The school started operating only in 1984, the first principal who was given a task of operating the school was a famous author and veteran educationalist in Butterworth Mr K.S Bongela. He was appointed because of his experience since he started the schools like msobomvu Senior Secondary School, Ezizweni Senior Secondary School from nothing to fully functional schools. When the schools opened in January 1984 the principal had been given a bunch of keys and there were no chairs, desks, tables, papers and pens but because of his good organisational and communication skills the principal negotiated with local schools who donated with furniture.
Later on after the school fees were collected, procurement for basic staff like stationary, cleaning material was enabled.
In April 1986 the school bade farewell to Mr Bongela and Mrs Koti took over the reins until her appointment in 1996 as an EDO in Willowvalle after the new dispensation.
In 1997 the school appointed Mr K.S Jam-Jam as principal up to the end of 2006 when he got appointed as an EDO in Butterworth district.
In 2008 the school appointed Mr N.F Ntantala as principal and is currently the principal of the school.
