Description

Brewed on the site of the original wagon trail used 1819, our beer pays homage to those who forged the original trail and their enduring quest for refreshment.
Each of our finely crafted beers is an ice-cold, thirst-quenching tribute to pioneering spirit. Every unexpected twist, a salute to those trailblazers who break the rules for rewarding results.
Distinctive, daring and always adventurous - enjoy one of our golden brews – we’d like to think we’re still making history.

Such a beautiful setting. We were here for lunch on a Sunday. Had the most incredible chicken burger ever. Wine is very affordable. They may need some more waiters as service was a bit slow however very friendly
On the Franschhoek Tram Orange line. Avoid if possible. We missed 2 busses because we were waiting and waiting and waiting.... First for a waiter, then for drinks, then for the waiter, then for food... And waiting then LONG for simple burgers, chicken strips, cheese platter. No ways! Not again!
I came with my friends for a birthday celebration, ordered drinks - only for it to arrive 10 to 15min later baring in mind the restaurant was not full at all! - it then took a really long time for the waitress to come back to take the orders of our food, which took forever once again, only to learn that one the orders has been forgotten about, yes! That’s what they told us, “oh we forgot about your order” - the bill eventually comes, they want to charge us for a 1 litre bottle of water which was in actual fact a 750ml water - just to discover that they have no pricing for a 750ml! Wagon Trail, you have a beautiful location and I am sure that reading this review, it is no news to you, as you have received numerous reviews of a similar content, a quick question? When are you going to start caring and taking pride in your work? This is a hospitality industry, you don’t go employing people who has no people’s skills. And if you notice a common trend, fix it! It’s pointless your wine is amazing but your restaurant is a waste of time because your staff refuse to care about your brand.
To other customers: We visited Anura on recommendation because we wanted to taste their wines and was looking for a cozy restaurant to have something to eat. The interior of the restaurant is quite characteristic, but although we were informed over the phone that they have a fireplace, there was one, but no fire despite it being a Sunday and a cold rainy day at that. When I asked the waitress about this, she said they don't have dry wood. We booked a table of 9 but when we were shown to our table, it had only 8 chairs. Not any problem, but the waitress didn't notice nor offered to add an extra chair. Fortunately an empty table nearby allowed us to add the extra chair ourselves. After getting seated, we were deserted until I had to get up later and find a waitress to take drinks orders. When I inquired about one of their blended wines, the waitress told me that she "doesn't really know anything about wine" recall that this is a restaurant on a wine farm and could not confirm what wine was used for the particular blend. Neither did she offer to find someone who might be able to help with my request. Despite a somewhat limited menu, we all found something to our liking including vegan options for some of our guests. The menu was not presented by the waitress, nor did she point out any specials or limitations from the menu. Unfortunately 3 of us wanted their Pork Belly, only to be told after we already made up our mind that the Pork Belly was not available. Back to the menu to find something else... When the food started to arrive, it came one dish at a time with 5 to 10mins waiting for the next dish. I went in search of the manager to ask if he could help to get the remaining dishes out together. He promised to have a look in the kitchen. Not sure if he did, but he never bothered to come back to me or even to apologise when we left. On the table there was not even enough cutlery and the waitress did not notice, so I ended up taking additional cutlery from a vacant table. Overall the food was ok and so was the wine, but I cannot possibly recommend this restaurant unless you are ok with the service challenges or until management take notice and fix it. Bottom line, very poor service with waiting staff that is clearly not trained in waiting takes or dealing with customers, and a restaurant manager that suffers similar lack of customer service capabilities or interest. To the owners of Anura: You already have a good location, great looking restaurant and good wine. It should not be that difficult to overcome the training needs of your restaurant staff and manager I've seen great service from many other wine farms in the region. You don't want to stand out for poor service..
Great little restaurant part of the Anura wine farm! Best of both worlds - Beer & Wine. Food is great! Live music most Sundays.
Worst service and food we've had in a really long time. Completely ruined father's day. We will definitely ever return. We had to share fork and use a pocket knife because after waiting ages after asking nothing arrived. One meal at a time came out. Ribs were overspiced and unpleasant. Chicken burgers were salty and dry. Just awful. Shame on you Wagontrail.
Nice venue, but bad service plus our coffee and food were cold when we got it. Waiters got my girlfriends pizza order wrong too. Not coming back.
Did beer tasting with a cheese platter, both recommended. Lovely tranquil setting, the rest of the menu looked great, we were however just looking for something lighter. We will return to do wine tasting at ANURA
Loveley pizzas... awsome scenery. Definitely coming back for more
The pizza was amazing!!
