Very quaint little spot. Coffee was incredible and the setting was beautiful. Their food was very good. I shared 3 pizzas with my fellow diners. Z'German was the best of the three followed closely by the Prego. I wouldn't order the Flying Pig again as it was far too sweet with the caramelized onions and didn't have very much brie on it. Service was quite slow but paying with the Zapper app made the process easier.
This is beautiful. It's perfect for any type of outing, friends or family. The food is absolutely delicious and it is very well priced. they have food for vegetarians. Dessert was also a treat. The surrounding is tranquil and beautiful, definitely worth a visit in the afternoon but the evening is just as beautiful. There is no Wifi but you also would want any because the vibe is great for conversation. Waiters are patient and serve well. Only thing is that the entrance is not on main road, at the robot you actually have to turn into the side street, if you miss this then you must drive around. I'm definitely going back and this is saved as a Gauteng favourite for me.
City life does become hectic, even having a simple breakfast, lunch or dinner can be stressful when not in a relaxed environment. Many of us tend to rush of into shopping centres and take our hectic lifestyles out for lunch..... Shopping like crazy then rushing lunch becomes the norm for city folk. Well Windmill On Main has successfully alleviated the mundane and stress that has become a norm in the average city dwellers life. Windmill On Main is located on Main road roughly 6km a seven 2minute drive north towards Midrand. The windmill can easily be seen from Main Road on the right hand side. Parking is not structured, you find a spot and park responsibly and try not to be selfish and impede on other patrons. A brisk walk will see you seeing lovely African sculptures and works of art. You are greeted in a friendly manner and not forced to buy items. The gentleman are rather concerned about you being ok and not bothered that you might or might not be purchasing items from them. It's a brisk walk to the entrance of the restaurant, the setting a bit confusing but it's different and different is good. On the left hand side of the house that has been converted into this fantastic venue is a kiddies play area. The jungle gym has restaurant tables very close by you can watch your kids closely and yet have a wine conversation and well....lunch. Back to the entrance you have an option of walking straight into the little shop or the restaurant on the right of the house and some enclosed tables on the left in perfect view of the jungle gym. The shop... is small, but offers you what you need. The fridge has a selection of meats and chickens all grain free. To my surprise all the items are organic, all the sauces are as natural as can be.... The veggies come straight from the gardens outside. You will find oils pastes anything to make a homely dinner Natural as possible..... preservative free. The Restaurant... is set in a beautiful garden. There are sections and you can choose what kind of setting you prefer. A romantic table for two, a cosy table for four... Tea party for the ladies, couple of beers for the guys or maybe a function in the corner.Tables for all occasions. Food... I don't know about you but you get great pizza places in Johannesburg and you are spoilt for choices....there is a considerable difference between your mass production pizza's and your home made pizza's. The pizza's here are in one word "amazing!"and gluten free. Proper home made pizza's and you are spoilt with choices.... It's the individual attention to your pizza that just does it for me. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from. A complete breakfast menu with all the frills and thrills.... A lovely @lunch menu offering you anything from a Sri Lankan Been Curry, a Windmill Lamb Shank to a "Banting" Burger. You will definitely find a meal to please you. Bonus is the Kiddies Menu and yes gluten free pizza.
I've driven past this place for years, but never had a chance to stop by. Finally, this past Sunday, got to pop in for a lazy Sunday lunch with friends. More than anything, I loved the service! All of the wait stuff were friendly, hands on and efficient. As for the food, most of us had various pizzas, and all of them were delish! I love thin crusted, wood fired pizza, and that's exactly how they do theirs. This place is busy, so reservations are recommended.
Me and a friend had some nice pizzas there. Good food. Attentive waiters. Rustic outdoor setting under trees in nice artistic garden. Not crowded midweek lunch. Not a place if you are in a hurry, but rather if you like to sit and talk.
My favourite place to get pizza. The produce is grown there, you can even see the growing tunnels. The service can be a bit slower than normal but I personally find it more pleasant not to have someone at the table every 5 minutes. Great place for business meetings too. At night it is a super romantic place.
I thoroughly enjoy eating here. The portions are generous, the staff are well trained and friendly too. There is live music on the weekend too. The menu had gluten free/ banting options and are just as yummy as the original versions - sometimes even better.
Excellent service, great food, reasonable prices, and a very tranquil setting. We had a lovely dinner here. The next day i discovered my hand bag with wallet was missing and gave them a call. They'd found it under the table where Id left it, and kept it safe for me until I collected it. 10/10 would recommend.
It was really unexpected: we stopped there because of the signs advertising a market and discovered a great restaurant nested in a nice garden. Great with kids, they offer lots of banting dishes great for diabetics! Like the banting pizza with a successful cauliflower base. And the food is good.
You know that one road you drive on every day and every day you see a sign for a restaurant/shop/place, but you never stop there. One day you decide to turn in and have a meal or look around a bit and then you wonder why it took you so long to visit a place whose name you know so well? Yeah. This is that place. Located just off Main Road, Windmill On Main is a quiet restaurant that's different to others. Might be where it's located, almost in the middle of nowhere even with Kyalami Corner being a few KMs from there. It's just the feeling you get when you drive in. The feeling of being far away from anything. We ordered two pizzas. They were excellent but not any more special or unique than similar wood fired pizza offered at other restaurants. We still enjoyed them though. Our waitress wasn't overly friendly but wasn't in our face either. You could almost say the perfect balance. Prices are average. Not exactly expensive but not cheap either. Somewhere in the middle. The path to the entrance can only accommodate one car at a time so you'll have to wait a while if someone is already driving. Worth a visit, even if you only ever visit once. Turn in to Windmill On Main. And visit any other restaurants you've ever thought about going to. New experiences are stressful yes, visiting a new restaurant is stressful to some people but in the end it's worth it!
