Woodrock Animal Rescue was founded in 1992 by Nicholas and Estelle (Stella) Meldau, whose focus, passion and drive afforded their animal rescue vision to become a reality. The rescue centre originated in the suburban area of Woodmead and Khyber Rock, hence the name Woodrock.

Today Woodrock Animal Rescue is one of the oldest independent domestic animal rescue centres in South Africa. We are a registered non - profit, pro - life, rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing shelter now based on 8.5 hectares in the beautiful Hennops River Valley, 25 minutes from Fourways Johannesburg on the R511 Hartbeespoort Road.

We provide assistance to unfortunate, homeless, abused, neglected, stray, injured, ill, geriatric and unwanted animals (predominantly canines) that would otherwise have miserable lives and premature deaths. Woodrock Animal Rescue is a registered Non – Profit Organisation (NPO 103-156) and Public Benefits Organisation.

It's a far drive but a great opportunity for you to do a good deed for the day. There's a well marked walking trail with water points which loops 2-3km - get your step count in whilst walking one of their rescue dogs! Also take some carrots with you to feed the donkeys, they're tame & come really close! I've been twice already and sometimes the staff can be quite rude - watch out for the cat lady!
Had the best time volunteering for Woodrock last Sunday. Woodrock is the most beautifully looked after animal rescue sanctuary I've ever seen in my life! The love for animals absolutely resonates as soon as you walk through the gates. Me and my family will be making out time available to you regularly! I'm also pledging a couple of kennels soon! Thank you for all you do to take care of all the different rescues! You will be blessed!
What an amazing experience being at Woodrock today! The process of adopting a dog through them was nothing short of amazing- professional and efficient! But the rescue centre itself is just stunning! Filled with happy staff and happy animals, loved and well looked after. This is how all animal rescue centres should be run! Cannot recommend them enough
The staff are just so welcoming and friendly. The process was a breeze from beginning to end. We applied on Friday morning after our current pup had a successful "meet n greet" with the adoptee, followed by a thorough home inspection. The very next day, we were able to complete the adoption and take the little munchkin home. Please support Woodrock Animal Rescue. They are a worthy cause.
I adopted Isla and Sally 2 weeks ago. A little Jack russel and daschund cross. They were both fostered in real homes, so they have joined my family so smoothly and lovely, I am so relieved and impressed. I did a meet and greet with my existing dog at woodrock care and patience was shown to see if we had a match. We did. I was sent home with a doggy part pack a few toys treats and collar and the dogs were microchipped and spade and vaccinated. What a wonderful experience. I will share this far and wide what a wonderful experience. Thank you Sarah for all your help, it is so appreciated. You can see they're already at home.
We booked our doggy into their pet hotel while we travel. Such peace of mind to know our baby is taken such great care of while we unwind and relax. Update photos sent daily to us and i could se my baby is relaxed and happy while staying at the hotel. Great people working there!
Woodrock Animal Rescue is an absolutely amazing place, myself, my girlfriend and a friend visited the branch in Hartebeespoort. The staff are so friendly, the animals are all so loved there and cared for to the best of their ability. Woodrock loves all the animals dearly and I would definitely recommend going there looking to adopt a fur baby looking for a forever home and genuine love and also to donate.
Nice place to visit animals only. Quick on donation requests, terrible at giving adoptions. In fact, their ways actually encourages people to get pets at backyard breeders, which we did eventually and our pet now has the best food, medical and large space. I wud go backyard breeders again in future. Thank u Woodrock
The sweetest pepople with the sweetest animals! Went yo get my puply sterilized, so easy and i felt rested at heart leaving my pup in their hands. We then went to go see the other puppies and give then treats! The friendly staff helped is so quickly. Lovely place! And I'm not even mentioning the cute donkeys!
The best animal rescue that I have been to, we have adopted two dogs from them and I could not ask for a better experience. Their care is evident when you visit them, be it at the main shelter or a weekend pop-up, check them out on Facebook, the work they do is amazing!
