Group of Previously Disadvantaged Professionals working together to emancipate poor communities, by ensuring quality education for everyone.
YPDP Background
YPDP is a grassroots non-governmental and non-profit organization founded in 2013 by service oriented and dedicated young South Africans. As indigenous previously disadvantaged youth who are now professionals, the team understood the impact of limited social and economic support and how this inhibits one’s ability to progress themselves as well as their communities. An urgent need was therefore identified for interventions that will assist in building the bridge between the desperate local youth and those willing to bring about change into these disadvantaged communities.
The organisation believes in a participatory approach and encourages the prioritization of a better future for inherently disadvantaged communities and rural villages.
YPDP recognises a good education as the cornerstone for success and focuses its efforts around ensuring learners in disadvantaged communities are afforded opportunities that will see them reaching heights not possible under their current circumstances.
YPDP Objectives
•To eradicate illiteracy in disadvantaged communities and rural villages
• To cultivate a culture of working hard through incentivising the efforts of high performing students as well as educators
• To help professionals who were previously disadvantaged understand the power of giving back to their communities
• In line with the paradigm shift towards digital education, YPDP aims to utilise ICT resources in order to lay the foundation in learning of English and Numeracy.
• Improve the economic status of disadvantaged communities through income generation activities spearheaded by the youth
• Help create the possibility for interaction and cooperation among similar, progressive organisations and movements with the common goal of enriching disadvantaged communities.
The mission of the YPDP Foundation is to alleviate the suffering of individuals and families in the poorest communities through sustainable grassroots initiatives aimed at local empowerment, access to quality educational opportunities, in an effort to fulfill basic human rights, embracing a spirit of compassion and service to all humanity.
