The architecture is absolutely stunning! Entering the atrium feels like entering a cathedral. The height of the converted silos is breathtaking. Some may not agree with me, but I’d prefer to enjoy the magnificent atrium without an installation. The exhibitions were interesting and I particularly enjoyed some of the pieces from ‘When we see us’. This place is a must visit when in Cape Town. We are particularly appreciative that SA citizens may visit for free on Wednesdays with ID proof.
The Museum is striking in appearance. The artwork is good and some of the artists are quite famous. It felt a bit sparse as there are 7 floors but two are closed. The building itself is amazing.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The building itself is a work of art. The architectural interventions of adapting the previously known grain silos are truly remarkable - creating a dramatic interior with 6 floors of walkable space. Each level is carefully curated with various art and design installations, some that run over a few weeks or months depending on the artists involved. The spaces itself are spacious, well maintained, well secured by security and are wheelchair accessible where needed. Aside from the art, there is a touristy curio shop on the ground floor and a upmarket cafe on the the rooftop level, with picturesque views of the harbour and mountains.
The exhibition used to be a bit boring BUT the one that I saw in June 2023 was AMAZING and really worth looking at. The architecture of the building is nice but most people complained about the art. I can tell they took it to heart and have very unique and amazing artists on display. A MUST
When visiting Cape Town, one of the places I was most looking forward to seeing was the Zeitz MOCAA. This world-class museum of contemporary art is housed in a stunning former grain silo, which has been transformed into a striking architectural masterpiece. The museum's collection is vast and varied, and it features works by some of the most important artists from around Africa. The artwork is thought-provoking, challenging and sometimes uncomfortable - and it offers a unique perspective on the continent's rich and diverse history. It is a must-visit for anyone interested in contemporary art or African culture. It’s worth taking the time to explore each gallery and floor, and even the basement floor level where you can look up through the incredible architecture of the building. There is also a great gift shop upon exit, which is really worth having a look at. I would highly recommend visiting Zeitz MOCAA if you’re planning to visit Cape Town. It is a truly unique and special museum that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
An amazing building. Converted grain storage - now art. Navigation is terrible and most parts are closed. Art also not special - go only for the building, which is really uniqueVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It's a huge museum with nice architectural deign throughout. There was a restaurant on the top floor 6th so no need to start viewing there, even if the ticket person tells you to start there unless you want to. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing works from great black artists in juxtaposition in style while visually depicting the same type context but at different times Bearden and Pemba's works. Great place to visit.
Architecturally one of the most incredible places I have ever visited. Brutalism made beautiful. The audio architecture tour should not be missed. Plus the exhibitions are fantastic. Can’t miss.
Great place with some “interesting” items. I’m not the biggest fan of modern art but the surreal videos really interested me. The building is amazing with a really intriguing design and layout. Would definitely recommend if you like modern art or not because no-matter what you’ll really like the building.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The five stars are on the basis of the building alone, an ingenious and jaw-dropping transformation of a massive grain silo into a modern art museum. I was heartbroken when I made my way to it thinking I was wrong about which days it is open, but they very kindly let me peek from the back of the gift shop into the heart of the sculpted space. Its soaring interior feels much like the inside of a Gothic church. Big wow factor. Next time I’ll get the day right and see the art, but I truly love this building.
